I'm 15 years old, and I'm terrified of going bald.
My dad started to lose his hair when he was just finishing high school (age 17, 18)

Is there anything I can start doing NOW to prevent my hair from falling?
I haven't really lost any hair yet, but I just want to know if there's something I can do to prevent it from happening.

Thanks in advance,
Gaston.

Check your scalp for any hair loss every few months or so, but don't stress about it.

If you notice any recession, wait a while longer and start checking every month. If it gets worse, get on ketoconazole and minoxidil and finasteride if you're 18.

Basically that means he started losing hair as soon as his androgen levels became mature. Ruling out things like stress, etc, that does kind of imply if you inherited that gene, you may end up with pretty sensitive follicles.

The only other possibility is a genetically high level of DHT for some reason (unlikely) or something genetic increasing inflammation, and possibly other more subtle factors. It's still more likely to be follicle sensitivity though. You may have to just be on the big 3 or some kind of similar combo ._.

Good thing you're aware of what might happen. What does the mother's side look like though?

Kid it might never f*****g happen, dont worry about it until it actual does.
If some of your male relatives died of heart attacks would you be worrying about that now aswell.

Theres no point in stressing about this when you could still have hair in your 40's/50's for all you know. Get on with enjoying your youth - stay the f*** off this site, there are some deluded people on here who will not be a good influence to you.

I would not go on any treatments (bar perhaps a weekly Nizoral shampoo) at the age of 15. Jump on Finasteride at 15 and your puberty won't finish. You might not even have the male pattern baldness gene.

Don't do anything until you see signs of hair loss. You are not guaranteed to go bald, but you should watch closely for signs around 18 or so.

To answer your question- is there anything you can do to prevent your hair loss? I would say that while there is no "product" proven to prevent hair loss before it happens, eating a well balanced diet and taking a mens multi-vit should not hurt and will insure your body has what it needs to function properly. Don't worry about it until you see hair loss and if you do, talk to your doctor about options. At 15 you should concentrating on school and getting to third base...not hair loss.
