I would quickly get on sal palmetto, that should halt or slow down any chance of further recession. Keep what you have, I hate being a nw2 and I'm 19.

It will begin to recede as fast as a bullet, before you know it you'll be a nw2. Happened to me.
I only reccomnd saw palmetto because i believe it's safer than propecia, dosage of like 320mg a day and you'll see results.

Type saw palmetto hair loss on Google of your interested or just stick with propecia. Careful.

You mature late I guess?
How do you know you're still growing?

I think you could give it another year, you can't let it get to any further than a nw2 if it comes to that stage, or you might struggle in getting back to nw1. I'd love to see pictures of your sides, get a better idea of any recession, if any.

If your dad starting losing hair in his 20's (as mine did) why would you attest to finasteride or even Saw Palmetto ? You're obviously worried about it, and can I guarantee that you stress over it so why not take action now ?
At 19 years of age (same as myself by the way) you're about fully developed, not everyone is but the majority of guys are. If you were to grow anymore, it would be negligible amount at best. Saw Palmetto is as mild as you can get with any kind of "DHT lowering product" and it's efficacy with regards to hair loss is also negligible at best. I suggest you educate yourself more on male endocrine functions and talk to a physician before making any rash decisions to start-or not start a treatment at this point. If you're concerned about growing more (height), go to a doctor and have an x-ray done to see if your growth plates are fused or not. If so than sorry about your luck but your stuck at whatever height you are. As for outward growing, hit the gym and eat right; you'll see gains on or off Finasteride. Instead of worrying, take control now before it gets worse. Start minoxidil and see where that goes, for all we know it could just be a maturing hairline and you won't even need finasteride.

Thats what my hair looked like at your age man

Then I waited till 21 to start finasteride and a lot of damage had already been done, nw3 now and less of a chance to maintain

If losing your hair is something that is gonna cause you a lot of emotional pain that you wont be able to deal with, do all you can, as soon as you can, to fight it.

Believe me I was scared of finasteride, thought I was too young etc etc but the worse your hair gets the worse you will care about how safe finasteride is. And the truth is it is a pretty damn safe drug. Atleast consider starting with 0.25mg/day. I have zero sides btw. The earlier you catch it the better your chance. Once you let DHT start doing damage it becomes much harder to safe your hair.

God speed brother!

Oh and don't delude yourself into thinking a) better treatments are coming soon and b) you can maintain with a 'safe' 'conservative' regimen...that's what I did at first, big mistake!

It still looks good to me. I would just monitor it for a year or so. If it starts to look like a nw2 or there's a lot of miniaturization, then it'd probably be the right time to treat. Very few people stay at Norwood 1 through their 20s. A little recession doesn't necessarily mean it'll get worse anytime soon. You've got a thick head of hair. Enjoy being 19 and worry about if it gets a little worse, which it may not. I personally formed what people call a "Norwood 1.5" during puberty and it stayed that way for nearly a decade before I had to start treating it.
