Yes, you read that right. I'm a man with Woman Pattern Baldness.
It all started in June, when my family noticed that my hair might be thinning at the very top of my head (crown?). At first, it stayed in the back of my mind, then as time went by it seemed like hair was thinning more and more from that area. At the recommendation of my brother went to a doctor who said that I had hair loss, and it wasn't my diet or anything like that. the doctor in question wasn't a dermatologist, as I found out a bit too late (and after I paid for the visit!) and so later on I went to get a second and hopefully much more informed opinion and a checkup that didn't consist of casually checking out my head and saying "yup, you're going bald, try Rogaine and this other stuff and come back in 3 months."
Anyway, the second doctor, an actual dermatologist, was actually competent and professional, asking me about my diet, family history, etc. He told me I had hair loss, which I already knew, but the surprising thing is that my hair loss follows the pattern of female baldness! The signs, he said, are the fact that my hairline does not seem to have undergone any significant amount of hair loss relative to the ares behind it, while my temples are also not thinning. My own experience during the last 4 months confirms this, as I'd kept almost paranoid watch on my hair line, only to notice that the areas behind it are thinning. I've been recommend to take Rogaine and later maybe switch to a pill whose name escapes me at the moment.
He told me to look up "female-pattern baldness in a male patient" and I did, and didn't get a lot of informative results. I'm trying to look for more information on the internet about this condition (specifically why did I get it instead of male pattern baldness and what would the end result look like) but not luck. All I've turned up on female-pattern baldness is about women.
I'm completely lost. I even searched the forums and didn't get any results. Does anyone know anything about this?
