I just turned 20 and im balding

basically i have always had thin hair since i was little but alot more. recently in the last 2 years, my hair has been thinning quickly. any ideas? also what can i do in this situation to reverse the hair process(make it grow) or to stop it? willing to try anything besides surgery and it better damn work. hopefully something that i will see results in a couple of months rather than a year.

a little background on my family.
my father is bald
my mother has a similar balding pattern on her head (sucks to be her)
my sister has very thin hair but alot of it.
my brother is thinning but keeps his hair fairly short now.

i attached some pictures of my head

please help and thanks in advance.

YES
get on propecia (or proscar cut in 4) ASAP.

if you start early enough, you increase your chances of maintenance. Don't expect regrowth. Just maintenance AT BEST. These drugs work best if taken from the pre-balding stage..judging from your photos you still have "healthy" follicules so don't miss the train now.

Side effects are overrated on these forums, most people have none.
Add minoxidil as topical too.

going on propecia or rogaine....is it a lifetime commitment? as in once you start taking it, and you grow some hair back or whatever, then you go off on it, will the hair you recover just fall out?

Yea to both, Propecia and minoxidil are needed to be used for as long as you want that hair that it kept/regrew from falling out.

i remember when i was a bright-eyed, bushy-tailed propecia/rogaine newbie trying to accept the "life time commitment" aspect.

swallowing a tiny pill each day and spending 20 seconds rubbing in some foam is NOTHING compared to losing your hair. it's quicker then brushing my teeth. i'd be willing to do way more then that to keep my hair.

schedule an appointment with a local dermatologist and don't walk out without a prescription for propecia. get some rogaine foam from CVS and start appyling that (i suggest just once a day as opposed to the recommended 2).

be aware that you may notice increased loss/shedding during the first 1-4 months of these treatments. i definitely did - but it all came back much thicker, so hang in there and do not go off the meds unless you experience serious side effects.

i have seen a complete reversal in my hairloss since i started on Propecia/foam 5 months ago.

sorry for the longwinded post, hopes this helps!

Yeah, there are a lot of things you must do every day to maintain your body, eating, drinking, bathing, grooming, sleeping etc. Another 30 seconds added by a haircare routine is nothing if it means keeping your hair or even slowing down the loss. If having hair means much to you, you will be kicking yourself later in life for not taking that extra 30 seconds a day to treat the hair loss.

Untrue, but nonetheless he should still try propecia, minoxidil, and nizoral.

I had serious sides from finasteride which had to be discontinued. minoxidil makes me retain water, though I still use it but at a reduced dose. So I don't know how widespread sides are, but I'm just some guy and I have a number of issues. At least spironolactone and Revivogen don't seem to have any sides.
