If i was in your position King, i'd get on Finasteride asap, and maybe add minoxidil a few months down the line if your seeing no re-growth and only maintaining. If i could go back, i'd of got on finasteride three years ago when i was 20. My hair would of been so much better now. The longer you leave, the more you will regret it.

minoxidil won't damage your hair, and if it does, you will notice within the first month, so you can just get off it?

RE Swallowing, you should be ok I had the same problem never been able to swallow a tablet in my life but the propecia ones are so tiny it was easy. It helped me the first time to chew on a few sweats and try swallowing them, just to warm up the swallowing action, its easy now though im used to it tho.

I started propecia 2 years ago and added minoxidil last july. I have to say that if I could go back in time, I would start with minoxidil. After almost 3 months, minoxidil make my hair better than 2 years of propecia. (probably the effect of both combined though)

i very much doubt minoxidil could make someones hair worse... maybe if during a shedding phase etc. but not permanently....

Not only is it perfectly ok to "destroy" the pill first before swallowing, I strongly recommend that you DO do that! :) Just chew-up and swallow Propecia and Proscar tablets. There's no need to swallow them whole, and indeed I feel that it's a good idea NOT to swallow them whole.

Cautionary note: don't do that with other prescription medications, unless you can verify that they are not specifically formulated to be "time-release". Check with your doctor or pharmacist.

For the love of God, just chew-up and swallow Propecia and Proscar tablets, especially if you're one of those people who have trouble swallowing pills and capsules. It's time to get away from this stupid and pointless tradition of swallowing those things whole (again, swallow them ONLY if they are "time-release" formulations).

Would you recommend chewing up dutasteride Bryan? :puke:

Probably a good idea, if you can stand the taste. I've heard the oily vehicle they use tastes God-awful.

But if you can't stand it and have to swallow it whole, I wouldn't worry about it too much. It's hard tablets that concern me the most.

I doubt rogaine hurt me, but certainly hasn't helped. I have the same problem you do. My sides have been thining for my entire life.

I asked my Pharmacist about his today, he said many pills can be chewed but you need to drink at least 8 ounces of water to make sure they get digested correctly as the coating you are breaking up helps with digestion. He told me many drugs (not just time released) should not be crushed because they have a enteric coating which is special coating to protect your stomach. He highly reccomended swallowing all pills and said there is no advantage to breaking them up.

So basically if you don't have a problem swallowing a pill there is no reason to chew them.

Did you tell him about my mother's experience?
