Im suffering from mad loss on advodart!

Hey guys,

I have been on advo for about 6 months max and i started as a Norwood 1.5 - 2. I had a considerable amount of hair. Recently my hair is starting to thin in my temple areas and every time i look in the mirror im just like "damn, a year ago my hair was rockin at a nw1, and now it looks like im heading to a nw3"

My hair is just thinning dramatically. If all of my hair were to thicken up I would be a nw1. Can this be induced by advodart alone? Has anyone else experienced a similair situation? I just hope this is some type of shed brought on my advodart or else im in trouble. Its not good to be in my situation at my age!

Im in the same situation. I think it is a major ched, even though after one year now things havent really got much better. Just hang in there and try use some spironolactone to reduce the testerone on scalp. Main thing now is to hang in there, are you using generic brand?

YoungGuy - same sort of thing happened here. Around the 6 month mark my hair started some serious shedding, bad news is mine kept this up for the next couple of months - though the rate of loss varied massively within that period. Good news is that after that the loss settled down and now, at the 13 month mark, I've gotten back most of what the shed cost me - front is taking longer to improve.

Of course we all have unique responses to a drug like Avodart/Dutasteride, so my timescale of shedding and regrowth can only be a guide to what might happen.

Goingat20 - if things don't pick up in the next few months will you be moving up to a daily dose of dutasteride?

Im taking it every 2nd day (not 3rd anymore) now and sometimes daily. Hair doesnt seem to be falling, hopefully things can get better...

Any early signs of growth? At the front I've got quite a collection of those short, thin, lightly pigmented hairs that seem to be the follicles' first effort towards regrowth.

why does anyone even take this drug? when blatent warnings of it have been given out, and can have a prolonged effect on your system after you stop taking it. Why not just take propecia, as this has been approved of the FDA.

Sounds promising. Im still waiting for some new hairs in the front or even it to thicken up more, front has always been my worst area so im hoping it gets better

Because s1m0n for some finasteride does not do the job and of course we would be on finasteride it's cheaper to!

S1mOn, Why are you taking Finasteride after hearing about all the Blatent warnings. I wouldn't give all your faith to the F.D.A. remeber Vioxx?

Dude, do you even understand basic biochemistry and how the body metabolizes it's hormones. I'm not saying that I do but before making judgements about DHT inhibitors, wouldn't it make sense to know what were talking about instead of initiating nieve speculation...

The only thing I worry about with any DHT inhibitor is that it may have the potential to destroy the 5Areductase thingymajiggy perminantly which is responsible for converting T (Testosterone) into it's more potent subsiderary DHT. We need our DHT to get to places in the body where T has trouble getting to. If this happened my DHT levels would never normalize to what they were.

Hey guys thanks for your replies I really appreciate it. Please keep them coming! As for my situation I am taking generic advodart once a day and I am taking spironolactone one to two times a day depending on how busy I am. Is it normal that I am thinning/receding a bit while on dutasteride? It’s pretty significant. A year ago I would have never imagined that my hair would be in this situation. I’m praying that this is some type of shed. Has anyone else experienced this type of loss and regrew it while on dutasteride? If anyone can give me any suggestions whatsoever I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks get back to me!

I've been on generic dutasteride for over 7 months now and my receding hair has stopped in its tracks. Regrowth is appearing and I'm quite happy with the continuing results. unk:
