In Dire Need of Help

Greetings everybody,

I am an 18 year old boy from India.

It's been about 5-6 months now that I have been quite a lot of hair mainly in the crown region.

I first noticed hair loss/thinning in the month of november/december when it is a noticeably harsh winter season for we Indians, since we witness almost every possible season.

On the 5th of january 2011 I joined the gym and weighed a whopping 101 kg's.
I lost about 21 KG's in the next 3 months ( mainly by crash deiting , i agree i was being foolish ). I have pretty sharp feature and yes I am aware of the fact that I am good looking ( not boasting, but I am being honest, haha over heard a lot of girls speak :hump: ) I lost a lot of weight, made a good physique out of the whey protein supplements i have been taking. But I did not take any vitamin tablets.

Months passed by I was being told by my friends I am loosing hair and I'd get bald very soon. I didn't pay a lot of attention until I clicked snaps of my crown with my mobile phone. Yes , I was loosing hair. I had, and still do, have a full head of hair but it is a scalp which has hair lost almost from all nooks and corners. It's not visibly baldness , but you can see some empty scalp.

So on the 15th of april I decided to get a buzz cut, thinking I'd oil my scalp well and utilize the vast herbal/natural resources available here in India.
When i did get my hair done very tiny, nearly shaved I convinced myself I wasn't balding since I couldn't see any BALD SPOT as such.

The hair started to grow. To re-adjust my tall, fair, brown eyed look, I grew a french beard. Things were perfectly fine til it grew a little longer and I could see my scalp. I was horrified.

I did enough research on the reasons and convinced myself it is male pattern baldness.
On the 28th of May 2011, I visited the dermatologist.
He just looked at me and said this is Male Pattern Baldness. I DID NOT INFORM HIM ABOUT MY CRASH DIET.

He prescribed Finpecia 1 mg daily, Mintop 2% Lotion(Minoxidil) twice a day. He asked me to take 2% since I have thin brown hair from birth owing to my mother and My case isn't too severe since I dont have a bald spot or anything as such.

I came home and found out about finasteride and its side effects and later on spoke to the doctor about the same. He asked me to avoid the pills and start using mintop. Well I tried the finasteride for a few days and was *FUCKED* to be honest. I have my exams going on, and dont want to end up screwing 'em for the same reason.

A few days back I visited another dermatologist and she told that I have telogen effluvium and Male Pattern baldness.

She asked me to take:

Radiante Capsules once a day ( biotin, zinc and a few other vitamins)
Calcimax 500 (a few more vitamins like b6, b12 etc )

And then asked me to sit for a machine procedure.
It was some high frequency machine which kept on going 'turrrrrrr' and felt like a little current on the head. Didn't hurt at all, no pain at all, was instead very soothing :p

And then some blue colored machine was being swayed over my scalp.

My Queries are:

1.Can I continue the minoxidil for all my life ? Will the baldness trickle in later on ? I swear I don't mind doing it all my life, if yes I WILL!

2.I am quite an active fellow at the gym now. Can I continue gyming and apply minoxidil too ? I do all sorts of exercises namely abs since I am very fond of them and weight training too. I take protein shakes thrice a day. No drugs whatsoever. I am totally against the steroids.

3. Can I go in for the high frequency machine thingy and apply minoxidil too during this procedure, and take the vitamin tablets too ? The 2nd Doctor has asked me to come for it once a week.

4.I am not suffering any side effects from the minoxidil but when I was on finasteride I did suffer from some chest pain. BELIEVE ME IT IS HORRIFIC! Never getting back on it. And with the erectile issues topping up! NEVER.... So can I continue the minoxidil only ?

5. the most important question....Can the minoxidil cure my telogen effluvium and the Androgenetic Alopecia ? or the vitamins are going to cure the telogen effluvium and the minoxidil Androgenetic Alopecia ? will it go hand in hand

I have already started noticing some shedding over the scalp which means yes the minoxidil is working :)
I have a positive attitude regarding the treatment and will be applying I will be applying it regularly with no delays. So now I am only on mintop 2% lotion.

I am just in need of some good answers to my question. I Love this forum for the vastttt knowledge it sustains. Amazing...alright I am waiting :)

Low % minoxidil, especially below 5%, is quite safe and can be used for long term, but people often get some scalp trouble with ppg from minoxidil..
thousands of people are suffering PFS nowadays..
No doubt, that drug works great, but be aware of severe potential risk using finasteride...

That 2nd Dr sounds like a complete charlatan to me. I would'nt waste money on their recommendations.
Stick with proven methods if you've got m.p.b vitamins wont help. Its not a nutritional issue.

I thank all the three of you for taking your time and replying to my questions...

well no one has answered my question regarding the gym...

can i still continue going to the gym...?

is there a simpler way to understand if I have telogen effluvium or male pattern baldness ?

Is there a test I could do myself ?

I found this post over the web..

supposedly it helps in stimulating hair follicles that are dead..

she also asked me to take some lotion she has made, which i blatantly denied..

i would obviously go for something which is proven to save hair than go in for a potion she has made...

probably when I start earning, ill go in for a hair transplant or a hopefully the hair multiplication research takes a top notch objective and comes out in the next few years...

and what about the life time use of minoxidil ?

can it be used life long ?
