Hey, so basically my story is I'm 19 and my hair loss was fine up until the end of December last year.

Since then in the last 5 months my hair loss has taken an extreme dive, I seem to loose an increasing amount of hair every time I shower and whilst coming my hair afterwards, altogether I seem to loose 30-40 hairs, and this is consistent everyday. I loose hair not just from the top of my head, if I run my fingers through the back of my hair ill get about 6 hairs each time and I can do this repeatedly. The hair on the sides of my head are also very thin and overall my hair feels incredibly dry and fragile.

I'm going to try get a blood test done someday this week.

Any others experience the same diffuse thinning or could this be pointing towards a thyroid problem?

Any helps going to be greatly appreciated.

Sometimes replying in these forums makes me sound like broken record. You can shed a thousand hairs a day it makes no difference if all those hairs grow back. Everyone sheds hair even women and men with no hair loss but in them all hair is replaced.
Cant hurt to check other things, but if you have bald spot or less density and you believe in odds then you are probably going bald. If that is the case you need to try big 3 rogaine, nizoral and propecia.

Maybe so but I appreciate the help.

Yehh I've started my regime this week, using nizoral twice a week and minoxidil on the top of my crown and top of my head plus my temples.

I know this argument must arise a lot but I really don't want to go on finasteride, due to risk of sides....

arghh nightmare!!

Not really, I don't want to take the risks.

I'm thinking of adding revita shampoo to my regime, is that the best shampoo of its type?

To be honest no shampoo is going to slow down or stop your hair loss. In my opinion the only thing that is going to save an aggressive diffuse thinner's hair is finasteride. The risks are extremely small. The overwhelming majority of people either have no side effects on finasteride, or their side effects go away after a short period. The people that have side effects that persist are a small minority within an already small minority.

You can use every shampoo under the sun, its not going to slow this down, and for an aggressive diffuse thinner, minoxidil isn't going to help much either. Not trying to sound harsh..just realistic. I hate to see guys waste their time with shampoos and sh*t when they could be saving their hair.

EDIT: Sorry I confused you with someone else when I said you're a diffuse thinner. You didn't mention that in your post, but I think what I said still stands in that, no shampoo is going to even considerably slow down the progression. Minoxidil for some people may slow things down a bit, but not nearly as much as finasteride can, and minoxidil is a pain in the *** (have to apply it 2 times a day and its time consuming)

Does your hair actually look thinner or are you just freaking out over nothing?

(Shedding hairs in the shower can be perfectly normal and does not equal hairloss).

No, my hair does physically look thinner.

@Chris, I know..., not to try and get into the finasteride pros and cons argument which seems to arise in pretty much every thread that I have looked at. There is just too much uncertainty regarding the use of finasteride at the moment for me to even think about going on it.
