Indications of high DHT-levels?

What are the most significant indications of high levels of DHT in ones body?

I've always (or, well, since I was ~13-14 at least) had large amounts of body hair and constantly have had to put up a fight against acne on my face (earlier) and on my back (since ~2001 to this present day). Could this be related to my DHT-levels?

I've noticed that the thinning of my hair has gained speed at about the same times as hair has popped up in new places (like those random hairs on my shoulders). :S

Is this a good sign in the way that Finasteride might be the right treatment for reducing the levels of DHT in me?

i have always had a "personal" theory to this idea. i have always noticed, that hairier people typically lose their hair more often. I do believe that DHT does have a "positive" effect on body hair, so your statements, in my opinion, are not too far off. then again, i think there are lots of other factors in male pattern baldness other than just increased body hair. me for example. i have like eight chest hairs and can't grow a full beard, but have pretty hairy legs, so hair on the body (high DHT, in your theory) can't be the only determinant. then again, i don't have any family history of hairloss, so i'm probably just some genetic mutant :)

if you were to ask my opinion, i would say, that probably means you are a good candidate for propecia, what what do i know.

my theory for increased likelyhood of going bald:
if dad and mother's father are bald
if uncles, grandfathers are bald
if you are hairy, especially on chest and back.
if your hair always seemed kind of "thin" even when you were a kid.
if your hair has never been very healthy or tom cruise-like.
if you are a mutant who has none of these qualities and is just unlucky like me

Agreed

I know you said its just a theory. But alot of what you say makes sense. I believe that Asian (Chinese, Japanese) are less prone to male pattern baldness and also in general have little body hair etc

I believe that if Scientist did research on theories like yours, then we might go somewhere to defeating hairloss.

My girlfriends sisters husband is a hairy guy and he has lost all of his hair. I wonder if it's down to how much hair you have on your body. Gorrila type hair and you go bald, medium monkey and you lose a bit. Just a bit of hair like on a baboons arse and your hair is OK.

I know it's not scientific but I think it could have a basis for hair loss tbh.

How many of you that are super hairy are diffuse thinners?

My dad has ZERO hair on his arms, legs and back. He has a small patch on his chest.

He's been balding since he was 22.... He still has decent coverage though

"The number of total hairs on your body is a definite constant"? ;)

Of course it is an interesting theory, but - I don't know. I know many guys both at my age and older who have more body hair than me (!) and a full head of hair.

Oh - by the way - my fathers grandfather on his mothers side is ~95 years old and NW0 (his hairline is better than mine have ever been), although he's starting to get a quite bad diffuse thinning now. :S

Better late then never. Some people are Soooooooooooooo lucky when it comes to hairloss. I would be happy if I started to lose my hair at half his age.

I had a NW3 with diffuse thinning in my class at highscool, when we were seventeen. He was diffusing his way towards a NW5 when we graduated. :/ (and so am I, I guess, if I don't respond to Finasteride+Minoxidil ;/)

My uncles are all bald, except for one. The funny thing is, the ones that were SUPER HAIRY lost hair early on, 20's. The ones that had moderate body hair lost it in their 30's - 40's. Its so funny cause my cousin, the son of the uncle who lost his hair the earliest, is hairy as hellll. He is my age and is a solid NW3. I on the other hand, have minimal chest hair and no back hair. I do have hairy legs and hair on my arms. I really hope their is some sort of tie between the two....

Now, to put a spin on this whole thread -

I have around 50 hairs on my chest. Approximately 6 on my back. The hair on my arms and legs is fine and sparse.

I was a NW4 at 25 years old.

Since I turned 18 there's no way I'd be able to count the hairs on my chest. ;S

I guess I have somewhere around ~15 black hairs on my back (they are pitch black, even though I have light brown hair). It seems like they've been creeping down towards my biceps too.

It will be interesting to see if Finasteride affects this.
