I have noticed that guys who have a receding hairline, their hair recedes rather cleanly, meaning that the whole section that recedes loses hair and they have a new hairline or front.

but in my own case my temple corners are a mixture of really fine miniaturized hair, medium thickness hair and full thickness hair, and there isn't a clear new hairline, I just have holes in the front where I have miniaturized hair mixed in with normal hair.

Is this normal?

Give it time. You will have a nice lovely new hairline, just further back of course.

I would suggest starting with a Tri co Scope Analysis which can confirm whether your are experiencing signs of Androgenetic Alopecia which is what it sounds like you suspect that it is. If you are indeed experiencing Male Androgenetic Alopecia there is help especially if you treat early. Many of my clients have treated and have gotten good results. Compliance is very key. Seek out help from your local Trichologist.

I think I have the same problem as you. My hairline has never been "clean" since 2006, but has never receded further. It has receded, and my temple hairs are thinner than the rest of my head but they're still there even after 8 years of not doing anything about it. I started minoxidil roughly a year and a half ago and finasteride roughly 7 months ago and it has sprouted new hairs along my hairline that haven't thickened, so my temples look even softer even though there's new growth.
