Is 18 too young for wig?

Hi Im only 18 but have severe hairloss and receding hairline. Ive lost too much hair and I just cant stand it any more. Its only been 6 months and my hairline has scaled back by almost 2 inches now and ive lost over 50% of hair on the scalp.

Right now Im on rogaine and propecia and Ive been on it for about a month now and havent gotten any results but that is expected since it hasnt been too long. But I doubt it will work anyway due to the severity of the hairloss. Ive been thinking about getting a wig for a while now but Im scared it wont look real or someone will find out. Are there any wigs that look undetectable? I see alot of pics but pictures can deceiving. So would getting a wig at 18 be too young?

In my opinion getting a piece so young could actually work in your favour,People would be far less suspicious of such a young guy wearing one as they couldnt believe that you would need to.You can get some very realistic ones that wont raise any eyebrows but don't get conned into going to any of these places that charge you a fortune,do your research and become a pro at maintaining a piece all by yourself.

Try asking MichiganBaldy as he is the expert around here (and everywhere else).

I wish the internet was around when I was in my early 20's cause I would have gotten involved with this MUCH sooner.

A couple of tips-

-Get a professional to cut it in. If you want to do maintenance cuts yourself with a Robo or Flowbee, fine, but use a pro to help you get started. I've seen some decent looking and even some spectacular looking home-cuts, but every cut I have seen that was done by a pro like Debbie at splitendshairreplacement.com looked spectacular, and I have seen her cut a couple dozen units at conventions over the years. This goes x2 if your sides are thin.

-Get MB's DVD

-Styling products are a hairwearers best friend. They can help with blending, color issues, and creating the overall illusion of real hair (who thinks "wig" when they see a trendy, textured cut with some wax used to style it up?

-Read the toplace message board from front to back, and ask questions. I'm on there all the time and everyone is happy to help.

-Don't ever be afraid to go 3/4 or full cap if a topper isn't working out for you.

-Don't take it too seriously. Most of my friends know I wear and I get compliments on my hair all the time. Anyone who judges you because you wear a hairpiece is generally ignorant and insecure about themselves in some way.

right now my hair is about 6 inches long on the top so will I need to shave the top all off in order to get a good measure for a template?

Im in school right now so I cant walk around with a shaved head on top hair on the sides Ill look like a clown. And I dont want to risk cutting off my hair if I dont like how the piece looks.

Is there anyway I can do the template without cutting my hair?

Either go to an independent professional hair replacement salon to get it done, or take a rough measurement and order a stock piece and cut it to fit when it comes in. Some of these factories seem to have a problem getting specs correct on custom units lately, so if I were wearing a topper I would order a stock unit and modify it to work for you. If you go this route you could be wearing your new hair in a week.

Oh yea, and it's MUCH easier to do this with longer hair, so don't go crazy and try a short style till you have mastered it with a longer style.
