Is 28 too young to have a transplant?

I'm 27 years old, will be 28 in 3 months. I have diffuse hairloss, but a good enough hairline. I want to just thicken up my hair, not bring my hairline lower.

Last week I had a consultation with Dr Wong from Hasson and Wong, he was in London last week. He recommended 2500 - 3000 graftss.

I'm interested in having the surgery either late this year or early next year.

However I'm a bit concerned that my hairloss will continue and thus the transplant won't look good in say ten years.

I am on 1.25mg finasteride daily and I haven't noticed any loss in the year I have been taking it, no regrowth either, it just looks the same. I've heard that finasteride only works at the mid scalp and crown, so I'm concerned the front of my hair will look strange if I get any more loss there and if Dr Wong puts hair there it will look pluggy if the existing hair falls out over time.

Do you think 28 is too young to have a transplant?

No it is not. Actually it is better to do it now and enjoy your youth. Since you're taking meds and they are working I don't see a reason why you shouldn't do it now.

Since you've stabilized the hair loss and apparently have the funds to go through with it, why not?

I'm in your age range and followed through with a transplant a few months back. I'd consider it one of the best decisions I've ever made, an investment in myself if you will.

Psychologically, you have to prepare yourself for the first few months post-transplant. They can be troublesome. You'll look worse than you did before you underwent the procedure. The transplanted hairs fall out within the first month, you'll have a pinkish scar from the donor area (assuming its a strip procedure), and may even suffer shock loss in the adjacent areas.

I have seen people ( in clinic ) that have gone through it at the age of 22. You should go for it NOW. As you would enjoy your youth afterwards.

Im glad I have found this thread, im 28 in August and I have temple reccession heading towards a NW3, i want my hairline back and have been thinking about a hair transplant.

think very long and hard about getting transplant. assume u are going to bald like your most bald relative. i got one at 26 and it was the worst decision of my life. once you do it, all other options(shaving head, buzzcut) are over. i would pay any amount of money to be able to reverse what i did and just have shaved head. it has literally ruined my life..
just really think hard before you commit to transplant

Its a much more sensible age than an 18 or 20 year old going for a hair transplant although i think 30 would be a better age though. For some people hairloss slows down around that age.

I wouldn't personally. If a specialist is willing to do it I'd also have reservations. I asked mine and he said it wouldn't be wise until you are in your 30's. Wait a few more years and see.

Yes I would not go ahead with a strip surgery as I like to cut my hair on the back and sides to grade 2 or 3, which wouldn't be possible with strip surgery.

I would like to go with FUE, then even if I do start to lose hair in my 40s then I can at least cut my hair short all over without any scarring visible. I would never shave my head, number 2 all over is probably the max I would ever do.
