Is Finasteride a prescription?

So I got a letter saying my Finasteride was being held by customs because it was suspected of containing a prescription medicine. My first lot came through fine 3 months ago. They want me to get my doctor to sign a form saying I can have it. What's the deal, is it considered a prescription or not? I know lots of doctors don't see the need for hair loss treatment so who knows what mine will say when he hears I ordered it online. And reading this letter I got it seems the doctor will take on liability if he allows it, so I don't like my chances of him signing off. I don't know if I should just go to him and get Propecia which I probably can't afford... or get in contact with customs... or try and see if he will sign it off. I don't know why it got through customs last time and not this time.

Yes of course it is prescription medicine. Why don't you get a prescription from your doctor and just get it from Costco for $25/3 months? No need to order online.

I got a 3 month supply. There is a link on the email saying your order has been shipped telling you where it is. If it says 'held for processing' on the NZ Post site you're in trouble. My first lot came through fine though.

Yeah they got me too. My tracking status was updated today to:
"Arrived in NZ"
"Held for clearance"
Damn. What to do. I also don't want to pay for a consultation to get a prescription for rip off propecia. But I also don't want to stop taking finasteride.

Yeah I don't know. What do you think are the chances a NZ doctor would agree to sign for the finasteride when it's ordered online? The letter says the Doctor takes on all responsibility for the medicine. Probably unlikely he would agree but I don't know if it's worth a shot or not. Also not sure if it's helpful to tell him I've been taking it for 3 months or not. How much is Propecia? I wonder if Dr's can source finasteride and not just Propecia.

Just make finasteride over the counter and be done with it. I hope CB ends up OTC that might help drive down the price like minoxidil which is really cheap right now
