Is it better to keep a short haircut while on minoxidil?

Right now I'm sorta letting my hair grow out a bit, to at least medium length. I do notice when applying minoxidil liquid a lot of it tends to get in my hair, and it appears to stay there even hours later.

Is all that minoxidil in my hair wasted? Or does it gradually slide down and meet the scalp?

Hi there,

I've been on minoxidil for quite a few years and from experience, it's better to keep the hair as short as possible. When you hair is long, it's hard to reach the scalp without touching you hair and you hair can absorb the minoxidil you apply and leaving white messy residue behind. Personally, I think hair loss is less visible if you have short hair! You probably won't need to use the full 2mL if you have shorter hair

My hair cut regime (~once every 3-4 weeks)

Trim back and sides using a no.4 clipper
Trim top with a slidely longer clipper head (6-8) depending on hair density
Use a thickening grooming cream/matt wax to create that 'feathery' like texture

Hope that helps

Yeah, I think so. I keep it short. I think it's better that way, you';ll know your scalp is getting more of the minoxidil, rather than your hair. And it's also a hassle parting your hair to apply minoxidil if it's long, because when you try rubbing it in to the scalp, the hair you parted interferes with the rubbing, Plus, stylistically for diffuse thinners, short hair is better to minimize the appearance of balding.
