Official Lawsuit Notice of Claim
Propecia and Proscar are prescribed as a cosmetic treatment for male pattern hair loss also known as androgenic alopecia. The product monograph discloses that some men may experience sexual dysfunction but states that the symptoms disappear after cessation of the drug.

It is alleged that the drug manufacturers failed to adequately warn Canadian men of the risks associated with the drugs and that the warning remains inadequate to this day. The product information has already been changed in several European countries to include an adverse reaction warning of persistent erectile dysfunction after discontinuation.

If you or anyone close to you are suffering from medical problems caused by Propecia or Proscar, complete the Do You Qualify form. Your inquiry will be kept completely confidential.

VANCOUVER, Jan. 24, 2011

Lawsuit filed for men who suffer sexual dysfunction after using hair loss drug.

VANCOUVER, Jan. 24 /CNW/ - A class action was filed today in the Supreme Court of British Columbia by Vancouver resident, Michael Miller, against Merck Frosst Canada and its affiliated companies. The lawsuit has been brought on behalf of Canadian men who used Propecia or Proscar and suffered continuing sexual dysfunction.

Propecia and Proscar are prescribed as a cosmetic treatment for male pattern hair loss also known as androgenic alopecia. The product monograph discloses that some men may experience sexual dysfunction but states that the symptoms disappear after cessation of the drug.

Mr. Miller, who is in his early 20s, was concerned when his hair started to thin in some areas. He was prescribed Proscar which he hoped would stop his hair from thinning. After about a month of use he noticed a drastic change in his behaviour, "I lost my interest in sex and I felt anxious in social situations for no particular reason," he says. While on the drug, his symptoms of sexual dysfunction increased as the months passed. When he could no longer bear the side effects, he stopped using Proscar but these symptoms didn't go away: "My sexual functioning has not recovered, I have seen specialists and have tried treatments but nothing has worked," says Mr. Miller.

According to Mr. Miller's lawyer, David Klein, "The product labels have been changed in several European countries to include a warning of persistent erectile dysfunction after discontinuation of the drug but this change has not been made on the Canadian product labels." It is alleged that the drug manufacturers failed to adequately warn Canadians of the true risks.

Klein also says, "So far, more than 80 Canadian men have expressed an interest in participating in the class action. We believe there are many other men who will come forward now that the case has been filed in court."

Mr. Miller is represented by Klein Lyons, one of Canada's most experienced class action law firms.

Of course it's f*****g legitimate.

Oh yeah, it's just 80!!! hypochondriacs - finasteride can't do that to anyone :jackit:

Do you question the legitimacy of a young mans suicide too? or the multiple studies that are now being done on permanent finasteride side effects?

So many men are suffering in silence over the damage that finasteride has done. There are barely 10 Canadian guys on Propeciahelp - there is 80 in that lawsuit, and to see that lawsuit you really need your finger on the pulse with the behind the scenes stuff going on with finasteride, so god knows how many have been ruined by the drug.

Sorry, but I have to question whether there was some hormonal imbalance to begin with. Diet as well as exercise also plays a role in the side effects I experience. If I'm lifting weights and exercising I notice a very small hit in that area. I also notice improvements through the use of vitamins as well as higher doses of Vitamin D3. Last time I had my hormones checked my Cortisol was slightly elevated, my testosterone was very elevated, and my DHT fell in the low to mid range that is higher than what the general propecia range falls under. I happen to have higher testosterone and hence higher DHT than your average guy. As a result, I'm probably not likely to suffer from these effects. The only time I may notice a major impact is in combination with drinking a few alcoholic drinks at a time. Only then would I say I could have a problem.

I feel like the people most likely to suffer are those who take finasteride during their teenage years, and in rare cases their 20's. I can understand teenagers having long term effects given the body may still be reaching a homeostasis for hormone levels, but early 20's is probably very rare. I would not be surprised if those with very low levels of androgens to begin with suffer long term under a use it or lose it type phenomenon. You see similar potential long term effects in teenagers who use steroids, especially among those who do not use post cycle therapy that is designed to quickly kick start the bodies own production of androgens.

There might be a lower bound where if under for long enough, the individual may have long term problems. I just don't feel like this is the majority of people, as quitting should bring DHT levels back to normal within about a week. 5-AR takes approximately 36 to 48 hours to return to normal levels.
