I probably use around 1.5ml to cover the whole area.

Should be ok, but watch out for signs of systemic over absorption like heart palpitaions, I have found these are more likely if you apply minoxidil to a damp or wet scalp (the moisture aids absoption).

Someone posted here recenty that they were using 6ml a day!! (2x3ml)

It sounds like you are a diffuse thinner, are you taking propecia?

nope not yet, i havent been to my doctor for help. i must stress that my condition isnt so bad yet, i just see what will probably happen and am a little scared. so i'm using Rogain to stop any further hair loss. yeah the pattern looks a little horeshoe-ish and thinning is on the top and on the right side of my head. no actual bald areas. will Rogain work on any part of the head? or just the top? thank you.

Rogain (minoxidil) is primaraly a growth agent and will not stop any further hair loss.

It like painting and repainting a rusting car, it may look ok but the underlying cause (moisture/rust) continues beneath the paint, eventually the whole car will simply collapse.

Propecia will stop or slow the underlying cause of hair loss, which is dihydrotestosterone causing the hair follicle to shrink and produce increasingly smaller, thinner and less pigmented hair)

The top and the right? that's unusual?

Rogain did their FDA trials only on one area (the vertex?) and so can only advertise it as working here (it would cost more millions to get approval for other areas). Many here report results in 'non-approved areas of the scalp.
