Is it possible to have thinning ONLY in the forelock region?

So, about 9 months ago, I noticed thinning in the forelock region (like that island of hair that generally persists in most balding men). I should probably also add that I don't have any temple recession. I went to a hair transplant doctor for a hair quantification(?) study, where he concluded that there were about 50% fewer hairs in the frontal(forelock) region, and basically normal amounts everywhere else. He then performed a miniaturization study, and after looking through my entire scalp with a microscope device, said that there wasn't any miniaturization except maybe in the beginning corners of the temples.

I buzzed my head after that so that I could better (obsessively) observe my hair, and over the course of these 9 months, my hairline has basically remained unchanged and I haven't noticed any diffuse thinning. The only thing is, I think my forelock may be continuing to thin. However, try as I might, I can't see any miniaturized hairs in that region even with a sort of magnifying glass. Is there a such thing as thinning without any miniaturized hairs? I've been obsessively looking at the forelocks of other people, and I feel like forelock thinning isn't that uncommon, but I'm not sure.

If anybody has any insight as to what may be happening, please let me know because it has added some unneeded stress to my already stressful life.

Sounds to me like you may be developing something like a NW2A?

I read that either hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism, one of the two can cause frontal thinning. The other can cause thinning everywhere.
Are your eyebrows thin at the edges at all? Could just get a blood test to rule thyroid problems out.

Thanks for the replies! I think the edges of my eyebrows may have always been thinner than the rest of the eyebrow, so I don't think I have hypothyroidism. I might just get a blood test anyways though.

I think it must be the formation of a NW2A. Would minoxidil or finasteride help with hair loss in the forelock, or should I wait for my temples to start receding? It's a bit embarrassing because the forelock is thinner than the rest of my hair, so it looks like I have this weird thin spot at the front and it's bothering me a lot.

I know what you mean. I hate that my forelock is thinning. It drives me insane! Here's my hairline:
