Is My Fear Making Any Sense Or Just Overthinking...

First of, my hairline is quite intact or very minimally receding at best.
The only thing is my hair (top side) density and fullness keeps decreasing over time. I can't have long hair or style it like when I was younger.

I'm pretty certain I'm affected by male pattern baldness even though it's progressing slowly.

I fear that finasteride will ruin my hairline because of initial shedding. And if finasteride doesn't work well with me, the hair I lost during the treatment will not return and my hairline is forever gone. AKA I better not start it yet.

Is my fear irrational?

It would make sense if you didn't start with finasteride because of the sides (imho not even then). Otherwise it's overthinking. I don't say you can't lose hair with it, but obviously it's very unlikely.

No. You are not overthinking things. Ignore anyone that says hairloss meds can't make your hairloss worse. That's complete bull****. They absolutely can. finasteride fried my hair eveywhere and if you look around the forums you will find example after example of people shedding on finasteride and minoxidil and it never growing back. finasteride inhibits dht so obviously you need to be in the category of men who are losing hair with high dht levels. If you are losing hair with low dht levels then the problem is the hair follicles are more sensitive to androgens and finasteride probably won't help and could make it worse. Guys in the latter category need to approach finasteride with caution at a lower dose, like .25 mg.

OP, if you really wish to come to peace with your hair, I highly suggest to see a specialist, like a hair transplant surgeon. They will be able to answer any question concerning your hair, and considering that you've had an account here for over three years and aren't certain if you're suffering from Male Pattern Baldness or not. Please have this taken care of.
