Is Taking 0.25mg Of finasteride Worth It?

Finasteride reduces DHT by stopping 5ar doing its job.

It's the reduction in DHT which causes your hair to grow and your sides to develop. I reckon there won't be a lot of difference, as 0.25mg reduces DHT by almost as much as 1mg.

Worth a try though, and will obviously be a quarter of the financial cost :)

Just so everyone here knows, I got some pretty nasty sides on 1 mg after about a week. I'm reducing to 0.25 mg EOD for a week then am moving to .25 daily.

I'll keep you guys updated, but my testicle pain went away on .25. So far so good. May have gone away anyway though, so who knows. In this same thread, it's interesting to note that I had a sudden onset of testicular pain on the 7th day that lasted through the 9th. After discontinuing then subsequently reducing hte dose, I hope that I can maintain some DHT inhibition while avoiding sides.

Because of case reports of people who got sides from 1mg and then cut down to 0.25 and experienced none.I would like to know how you know there would be no difference?

I don't claim to know that there would be no difference, but considering how similarly the two doses suppress DHT, I think it would be unlikely that anybody could distinguish such small differences.

I have to smile when I read about somebody taking a somewhat smaller dose of finasteride, and suddenly their "side effects" magically disappear! I think a lot of that is in a person's head! :) I'm reminded of that recent study in which finasteride users reported a lot more sexual "side effects" when the possibility of that happening was discussed with them beforehand. The ones who were simply given the drug without that discussion beforehand reported a lot fewer such "side effects"! :)

I think 0.25mg is probably enouth for them to stop hairloss but not high enouth to reduce sex drive.I dont think you need as much finasteride to stop hairloss as you do to chemically induce sexual side effects.

Interesting speculation, but that's all it is: speculation. For all we know, it might be the opposite of that.

That is interesting, but pain is not something that is easily psychosomatic. Again, it is anecdotal and there is no control that stayed on 1mg, but for me discontinuing for 2 days then restarting on .25 mg shows some promise initially.

I will let you guys know if after a few days I experience sides though. Hopefully not... might see the gf tonight :agree:

I'm doing fine right now. After a week of every other day, I switched to .25mg daily and I have no sides.

The side effects of finasteride are supposed to go away with time, maybe I've past that stage without experiencing major sides. As I said, when I was on full dose, ie 1mg, for a week, my testicular pain was getting annoying. I don't feel any sides at the moment.

It appears that we responded similarly at first. How has your experience with finasteride been on this regimen?

medmax, the problem is you're changing your doses all over the place within a week or two. How do you know what is or isn't the cause of the side effects you're feeling?

Because I consistently took 1mg every day for 8 days between 9:30 and 10:30 AM... the problems developed the 7th day and subsided on the 10th and were completely gone by today (day 11). I began a new dosage today of ~0.25 mg or 1/4 Merck Propecia.

The only change in dose occured after the onset of side effects and that was to discontinue the drug for two days until I talked to my doctor. He told me to discontinue.

Despite that, I am trying a lower dose to see if the side effects are either significantly decreased or eliminated. If they come back, I will have to discontinue seeing as I don't want to suffer long term damage.
