Is there anything out there besides the big 3 that actually even remotely works?

Excellent question.. I’m going to a 4th July party so can’t answer. But hair transplants though working to a certain percentage they don’t tell you, will gradually start to fail. That’s why a thorough maintenance program is needed.

Back 12 to 15 years ago, Proxiphen would have been mentioned but I don't know what happened to those guys who used it. I know one claimed that when he stopped everything and stayed on Proxiphen he maintained very well but HLH is gone and you can't see the old threads.

Hi, how aggressive was your loss before Zix? I'm thinking of jumping on it but wanted to see it tackle a similar pattern first.

Also any pics of your transplant, I feel I'm in the same boat as you potentially...

Thanks
My loss was fairly aggressive at the hair line and thinning towards mid section.

I started ZIX before my transplant, and as I anticipated, it didn't regrow any hair, however it instantly relieved my male pattern baldness itch and shedding reduced greatly. To date nothing remotely has had this effect on me other than hormones altering drugs like, finasteride, RU etc which sadly come with sides for me. I also added a laser cap with ZIX and it seems to have synergic effect which I believe another user on this site is reporting.

Unfortunately I'm not into sharing photos over the internet but I was close NW3 before transplant, I had around 2.5k grafts at a clinic in Belgium. I had by no means an aggressive hairline but the mature hairline I've had reshapes my face, and I'm hoping will age well over time as I get older. 18 months down and I'm happy with my transplant results and my prevention regime, but I'm under no illusions I will be back in Belgium at some point in the future.

Seleun blue. Isnt there a study that showed selenium sulfide destroys hair? Or increases loss?
Idk, I never heard of that. Maybe it just means you're shedding, which precedes regrowth? Who knows.

Selsun Blue also has a salicylic acid shampoo, it's very powerful. This is the same ingredient used in acne medications (like Clearasil) and will most likely at least provide relief to the itching. It seems to do a good job of keeping the scalp dry, in case sebum is also an issue for you. I personally have found the salicylic acid shampoo superior to the selenium sulfide or pyrithione zinc shampoos. However, since it's so strong I probably would advise against using SA every day (same thing with ketoconazole). But you can probably use the selenium and zinc ones more frequently. Lately I've been going with a cheap daily shampoo on most days, and a couple days a week I go with SA or keto.

I am in the same boat, I had a hair transplant 18 months ago, 2500 grafts in the frontal third. I also refuse to touch any hormone altering drugs, and with that decision I understand that I am happy to chase my hair loss with future hair transplants at the worse case scenario, I have enough in the bank to NW5.

However, I have been holding up very well with ZIX and a laser cap. My growth from the hair transplant was incredible and I was completely drug free.

I hear many posts that you cant have a transplant without finasteride/Minoxidil, and of course taking these are advised but as long as your happy to commit to future transplants, it is an option. I have had excellent results since my transplant and I have gained a lot of confidence. Of course this is a case by case basis, and what works for me may not for others but so far I am maintaining nicely, and at 30 have better hair than I did at 20.

Don't get anxious, just do what makes you happy and roll with it.

Zix and laser is helping me maintain too

It depends on the extent of baldness or projected baldness. I have seen some of the best results on pure skin heads with essentially high and perfect fringe hair. Often these folks are done balding anyway. People with diffuse thinning all over should avoid doing anything but a partial area like the temples or crown.

Everyone differs in scar healing ability and on some people, it's hard to find the donor area because the donor site heals so well. Some times, things on top can cobblestone but maybe the doll hair look is gone but 20 years ago, the doll hair look was quite common. I think more people are getting transplants but the percent of balding men getting transplants might be lower because of all of things that can go wrong. People on finasteride early or Duta or at all, have better chances. But you need an amazing amount of donor hair and it has to be good quality hair. If it's frizzy or damaged on the sides then it should be a no-go. Why? Because it will just grow even worse in the new area meaning you get some coverage but it is garbage hair. I used to have that but my hair has improved so much that all of the garbage hair--hair that doesn't come out straight but is kinked, etc. that now I just pluck them with tweezers. Plucking in small amounts might improve hair in generally by selectively plucking but the literature on this is far from developed but there appears to be cross-talk among follicles.

Hello,

recently i got a hair transplant and its perfect. And I honestly am super scared for the regrowth phaseand I am anxious about maintaining the rest of my hair.

i am not on any medication and use only nizoral and (just started topical spironolactone).

the reason i am not on finasteride is first tried it for a year saw no gain or slowing of shedding. Then i developed gynecomastia symptoms. So oral anti androgens aren't an option for me.

if there is anything out there that people have noticed TRUE benefits. Like maintenance please share. Please do not share if you arent 99% confident it helped. Way too much placebo affects and people styling their hair or seeing benefits from thickening cosmetic agents.

so much snake oil out there. Honestly cant believe there are no laws to protect people from this bullshit.

recently i read about watercess extract working on the wnt pathway. Not sure if that works.
Honestly the big three are the best science can do atm.
You can try some Saw Palmetto oil to help improve the results but the science behind it is limited.
You can also try a hair transplant, a hair unit or hair filling fibers like Bromane for immediately increasing hair density.

Interesting a lot of people found relief and at least maintenance on Zix. It didn't do anything for me in terms of itch/shedding/loss.
