Heya. about two years ago, I started to lose crazy weight ( about 100 pounds in ) and finished a couple months ago. I had thick hair before, but at 14, it was thinned all over and extremely receded. None of my parents have hair loss, nor do any of my grandparents. I have been extremely stressed, low on vitamin D and Iron, and losing extreme weight for 1+ year.

I have stopped all these habits and hav been on and off of stress for a couple months now and went to a derm. They said me and my mom have two things, Telogen Effluvium and some genetic condition. I really doubt it is a genetic condition due to the fact that my mom has not been hit with after 50 years, what's the chance I'll get hit with it at 14?

Also another thing is that the hairs I have on my hairline never really fell out, they're just short and never grew. I have had my sister and my hairstylist say that my hair is growing but I don't know. I really doubt it will grow back. Is this Telogen Effluvium? Here are pics

PS: my hair is thinner all over, but really the too is only noticeable

It could be Telogen Effluvium, eat healthier and try not to stress over it. See how your hair is in six to eight months. Even if it was male pattern baldness theres no treatments for you at your age.

I have been eating healthy for like 4 months now and people two people told me it got better. I assume more people would tell me but many people don't know about my problem since I conceal it well. The pictures are basically how it looks 4 months after eating healthy. Loads of baby hairs, what is it?

It could be Telogen Effluvium and if so your hair can recover when you're feeling better again.
But, I also noticed you have a lot of hair on your finger for a 15 year old. You don't see that so often. This could be an indication that your testosterone / dht levels are very high. If you're sensitive to dht related hair loss than that could be the reason you're thinning.

Well to me it looks like a severe case of male pattern baldness. Unfortuantely at your age it is not wise to treat it, nor is it likely to be effective in the long run. Sorry bro, it sucks.

Really? I mean don't you find it weird that my father, 60 does not have any type of hairline recession or baldness whatsoever and my mother, 50 has Telogen Effluvium, but me at 14, has a certified dermatologist prescribe Telogen Effluvium, and if it were to be male pattern baldness it would be the " by far the worst case they've ever seen " ? On top of that, it happens right after I lose 100 pounds, which is KNOWN to trigger Telogen Effluvium? Also what's with the baby hairs?

As for the hair on the hands, I have been taking biotin and have had hair on my hands since I was a very young age. Everyone in my family is hairy

PS: It has not gotten worse for a couple months - the time I stopped losing weight

Your hair will (most probably) grow back. Wait 3 - 4 months, or more (like 8 months). And only then think about Treatments.

The reason why I am asking is because it's been about 6 months or so since I've stopped with the terrible diet ( lacked vitamin D + Iron and had very low calorie intake ) and while I do notice a bit more baby hairs, it's not the point where I want it to be. I am not sure if it's me or if it's actually gotten better or worse. I doubt it is getting worse because I haven't seen any drastic differences and when you hear bout people with Telogen Effluvium, they tell these stories of having clumps of hair on their pillow; I'm not like that. I don't really notice my hair falling off a lot. I have had my sister and hairstylist tell me that it's getting better ( my hair stylist who didnt see me in 2 months said it gotten drastically better ) but I am not sure. I havn't noticed much really any difference, but I have noticed my baby hairs get a couple milimeters long in some places.

I am still on and off with intense stress but it is much better than before

From the pics hes provided, it looks like a typical male pattern baldness horse shoe pattern. Telogen Effluvium does not have a pattern of loss.

Also, look at how strong his sides are. Another reason it probably isn't Telogen Effluvium.

That was really hard to read. You could be right, he may just be unlucky (or lucky) and Telogen Effluvium has affected him in a horse shoe shape.

Really, he needs to see a Doctor.

Hey. I did see the doctor and I mentioned it twice, they said it was telogen effluvium, and the reason why they did not think it was male pattern baldness because NOBODY in my family has male pattern baldness and a 13 year old having such thick hair and losing 60% of their hair at 14 would be by far the, I quote, WORST case of male pattern baldness they have ever seen.

I asked my mom today and she told me it has seemed to get slightly better. The reason why I'm here asking is because it's been more than 6 months and if there were to be a change, it would be more significant. Maybe it's because I see myself everyday, I don't know, but it's been like 6 months since this crap has finished, but I am still on and off of stress.

I am not sure if this is true, but I read online that when Telogen Effluvium occurs, the top tends to get the thinnest. Also another thing worth mentioning is that my sides are about 20-30% thinner and is mostly thinner in patches.

Don't you think that it's kind of a coincident this happens right after I lose 100 pounds, intense stress, and am definitely in Calories, vitamin D, and iron? Plus, i have baby hairs where my thick hairline used to be, not many, buts it's definitely something.
