Is Topical Finasteride Worth Trying Or Not?

Is topical finasteride worth taking or is it uneffective, placebo? Been on the byline with my hairloss for years now. Its pretty mild at the minute, I'm 24 with a norwood 2.5 and pretty good density so I still want to avoid oral finasteride or use that as a very last resort.

Noticed loads of companies trying to sell topical finasteride now so if it's worth getting then which brands, companies are the most trustworthy?

Where can you find topical 0.025%? It seems like all I see advertised is 0.25%, 0.3% etc.

Yes it works. I was on oral finasteride for 14 years. Finally switched to topical 0.025% and hair is better than ever and my mild sides disappeared. Do it.
Works in retention or hair growth? Sorry for the complete lack of knowledge here mate but could you help explain the difference in these percentages you refer to when you say 0.025%? I don't get what this is or what is does incomparison to say 0.25%.. also is topical finasteride a messy product to apply daily or is it a relatively simple and easy use?

I read a guy that was on oral finasteride and switched to Topical and lost ground. He went back on the pill. Topical isnt better than oral this dude is delusional. And yes it goes systemic to an extent due to the small moluculer Weight. Many have had same side effects with topical as oral.

Make it myself with Proscar 5mg and Kirkland min 5%. Works incredibly well.

Since I have the money and I found out that Happy Head will customize your dose, I just ordered from them and will give it a shot. I'd rather have something pure and fresh from a compounding pharmacy vs me making my own concoction, which definitely works and is super cheap.

This is how it works. If you apply topical finasteride 0.1% daily, that means 1mg of finasteride per 1mL. So, 0.025% means 0.25mg of finasteride per 1mL on your head. There is a recent study that shows that topical finasteride 0.025% (0.25mg) lowers scalp DHT the same as oral 1mg, and has similar effectiveness when looking at hair count and hair thickness.

So, you're putting only 0.25mg on your head topically, which means only a fraction of that gets absorbed systemically...let's say 15-20%. That's like taking only 0.05mg orally but with the same effectiveness as literally taking 1mg orally.

Say what you want but I know my own personal experience, and I know the studies that are out there. I'm not saying everyone will have an identical experience, but my hair is thicker than ever and I have zero sides. Just a fact.

Thanks for keeping us updated with this. Did you lose any ground in the 14yrs on oral finasteride? What was/is your Norwood level? Did you experience any shedding during the switch from oral to topical? Did the sides just creep up on you over the years?

Minor sides were always there. I didn't lose any ground and improved my situation a bit with oral finasteride and topical min. I'm probably a NW1 now, and I was a 2-3 when I started years ago. If anyone looks at me, they think I have perfect, full hair with zero loss...you can't tell.

No shedding when I switched from oral to topical. In fact, shedding decreased.

Do you have a needling schedule?

How often do you apply it and do you dermaroll at all and how often? Finasteride easily goes systemic when applied Topically without needling even because of its small moluculer Weight. You are having better hair because you are blocking more scalp dht this way I assume. I read it blocks 60% with topical finasteride and 40% with oral. You think this is why? Dutasteride topically and orally didnt do sh*t for me. Despite even needling sometimes and oral dutasteride at a high dosage blocks more scalp dht than topical finasteride ever could. I cant tolerate finasteride anyway so im stuck with dutasteride. Your hair is thicker but at a Price of having to apply it on your scalp everyday for the rest of your life and indanger other People including your girlfriend she can never touch your hair now without getting dried flakes of finasteride on her fingers and everywhere. Much easier and safer to just pop a pill and be done with it.
