He could do it for $20 - 30,000.
hair transplant is not an option for NW7, even NW6 is pushing it.

Thats a crazy amount of cash for the average person. You would have to rob a bank to get that kinda spare cash.

Here is some stories below I found on the web of men stealing money etc to pay for hairloss treatments. Not as uncommon as you might think!

A balding bank clerk in Hong Kong is in police custody after getting caught stealing $43,000 from a client’s dormant bank account.

According to court testimony, Alex Chan (32) stole the money to pay for hair loss treatments because he was “terrified of going baldâ€.

You might want to know why a man would need to steal money to pay for his hair loss treatments instead of just using his own money. Well the answer is that Alex had already racked up debts of more than $16,000 on anti-balding treatments.

Chan’s fear of going bald apparently drove him to steal money from the dormant bank account at DBS, the bank where he worked. He had intended to use the stolen money to pay off his previous debt and to buy more hair loss treatments.

His defense lawyer David Boyton told Hong Kong’s Eastern Court that Chan committed the crime out of “vanity, not greed,†and appealed for him to be spared a lengthy jail term.

Chan, who has since paid back all the money he stole, was remanded in custody until May 17 when he is scheduled to be sentenced, Thursday’s South China Morning Post reported.

The magistrate, William Ng, has requested that a psychological report on Chan’s fear of hair loss be prepared before he decides how to punish him.
And...

OSSINING - Police were searching for a bald man, perhaps with stained teeth, who ran off with several boxes of Rogaine and Crest whitening strips from the local CVS Pharmacy.

This was the second time since September that a bald, or balding, man tried to steal the hair-loss treatment product from the CVS on South Highland Avenue, Ossining police Detective Lt. William Sullivan said. The latest incident occurred Friday afternoon when two men entered the store in the Arcadian Shopping Center and stole eight boxes of Rogaine and eight boxes of the Crest strips, a combined $200 value.

Not really, infact its a small price to pay.

What would that money get you? A 2nd hand sports car, a new average family car, a nice conservatory and some home furnishings?

Remember thats not the cost of an average hair transplant thats for someone who is a full nw5/6. ie : (a real bald man). Imagine if you gave someone the option of losing either their car or their hair, which do you think they'd choose?
For someone like Uncomfortable man or Hat Prisoner who's entire life is dominated in a tremendously negative way by their baldness its not that much of a sacrifice is it?
Yes $30k is a substancial amount but the only real b**ch about it is the unfairness of the situation, that we are in the position of having (if it comes to that) to pay for this. I try not to think about the $$$ I've spent even though it has been worthwhile in allowing me to feel better about the way I look, and being able to face the world without feeling like I stood out as a baldy.
It all depends on your situation but for me because of being bald money was'nt an issue because my life just consisted of working and earning money without spending it. It is frustrating to know that I've had to incur this cost whilst everyone else around me has been able to spend their cash purely on the nicer things in life. But then again most of us are spending money on treatments anyway.

Some people go to extremes to fix something that bothers them.

I have no regrets for having a hair transplant, at this point anyway, I do worry about further hairloss and more hair transplant's down the line, financially I couldn't afford $30k but if I had to I would finance it somehow (legally)

Like s.a.f says, its bitter sweet due to the unfairness of the situation.

Here's what I would do if I thought I didn't have the $ for hair transplant

1. Get a 2nd job delivering pizza, Starbucks, avg. about $10 an hour (with tips).
2. Trade in a car that I had a note on and drive a 4 cyl. clunker that was paid for. (99 accord, 133k miles, 32mpg)
3. Quit smoking cigarettes/drinking booze (don't do either so easier said than done.)
4. Stop eating out, eat home cooked meals
5. Buy a treadmill, free weights and cancel gym membership (did this, $600 yr. saved)
6. Sell anything I didn't absolutely need on eBay, amazing what ppl will spend on your junk.
7. Get credit card w/ 0 interest for first 12 months, payoff as much as I could, if by 11th month not paid off, do the same thing, switch balance, cancel previous card.

Now to reply to the topic. Not that i'd take advice from a 23 year old to begin with, but I've had 3 hair transplant's, i'm 32, and it has been the best thing I have ever done for myself. To me hair transplant is no different than braces. You go in, your grill is a mess, few years of wires on your choppers, a retainer next few years, result straight teeth. Some people only need braces a year, some need 5, extractions, a permanent retainer, etc... depends on the severity. hair transplant, no different. some need 1, others need 4, but to say it's a losing battle is extremely naive in my opinion. Odds are if you took 1100 at 23, you're going to need more, and you should have waited 3-4 years in the first place.

It depends on how much work you need, what norwood are you?
NW5 and counting. $30,000 - will that cover both visits, since they probably can't do everything in one sitting?

uncomfortable,

The best thing you could do is email your photos to a few reputable clinics and see what they say, I am no expert so I cannot tell you how many grafts or procedures you will need, and at the end of the day you are not commited but you will have a good idea on the cost and how many procedures you would need.

There are other factors that can't be relayed with a photograph, but that is a good start. Will do. I may even post those pics here and tell you guys what they have to say about my situation. Thanks.

I understand about the photos u.m.

Shortlisting a few clinics and going to see them in person is a better option, but I guess this can be time consuming and costly if you have to travel to each clinic.

For a cost and research exercise emailing your photos to each clinic would do no harm.

uncomfortable, how old are you?

I'm 32 I'm only around 20k in the hole. 4800 grafts to date, so 4.16 a graft on average. 3 sessions. that seems pretty reasonable to me. My scar revision will be free in 6 months, Doctor says he can get 100-200 grafts out of a scar revision, which are free also, so I may hit the 4 dollar mark when hopefully all is said and done. Also, my friend is going to a gy in Tampa to do 1600 grafts with laser. I wouldn't, but i'll let you guys know how it turns out. he's getting 1600 grafts for 3200. I wouldn't, but he seems confident and a friend of his just got 2000 grafts from guy and it looks great he says, he's sold.

Lazers??? how does that work?

Uncomfortable, if you was like 23 with a NW5 I would advise against having a hair transplant, but you are older, I would take steps in taking meds to try to hold on to what you have left and see what the clinics say.

Its worth remembering that the bigger the session the lower the cost per graft.
IMO its likely that Uncomfortable would probably need two sessions. The first would get the bulk of the coverage done and the second would be to finish off. Remember you'd need to wait at least 10months between ops.

I imagine they will take a big chunk from the back, then start with the hairline and finish the session just short of the crown. The second visit will fill in the crown and finishing details. Two sessions- BAM!

Yeah thats how it usualy, get the bulk done with about 5000 then 1 yr later when some laxity has returned get another smaller session 2 - 3000 to do the crown and maybe use whatever singles they get to lower the hairline slightly on the 2nd op. Thats the pretty typical route for a NW5/6 going to a top Dr.

BMW spends 99% of the time sat on your drive doing nothing, a few years later that $30,000 car is worth about $3,000.
