It's official: I need to lose weight.

I just measured my waste. It is 34-35 inches. It once was 29 at my same height. I thought I was looking a little pudgy. I could even see it in my neck, under the chin. My goal is to get down to 29 inches by the end of January, maybe losing 2 pounds per week. I want to do this without losing any muscle.

The gym is closed in 10 days, so I'll either have to start running or figure out some way to burn calories. I'm going to do 2-4 30 minute sessions of cardio per day, so my body is less likely to tap the protein, like it would if I did it all in 2 hours. I need variety, so I need a different cardio for each of the 4 sessions.

And I'm going to do pushups and dips and pull ups with a back, and shoulder lifts with two back packs, to maintain upper body muscle. Also abs stuff, and I got to figure out some heavy exercises for my legs. Got to work everything with low reps so my body does not take protein from there.

As for diet, I'm going to stay above 2000. I don't want my metabolism dipping. Maybe I'll do 2200 calories per day, and I'll plan all my food intake, measure it out in tubber ware, and have it in the fridge with the time I'll eat it, in 2 hour intervals from waking to sleeping. I'll also start drinking a gallon of water per day, spaced out.

I'm currently 155 pounds, and my goal is 145, in 5-7 weeks. I'm 5-8. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

i think its the dutas man...

Im on finasteride and its a b**ch to keep my weight down to where I want. I can do it, but I have to really work for it now. I think those are more subject to the weight gain effects if they are somewhat naturally chubby to begin with.

I just gained 5 pounds this last month. I don't think it is the dutas. I distinctly remember munching down plenty of food when I was not hungry, and I've been to lazy to sit up on the couch, and usually just lay on it instead. I also have not done cardio in a long time.

One thing I'm noticing is almost every guy who has a fat face has a fat body. The two are closely related. I'll be fine. And I'll do 2000 calories per day. It'll be nice if I'm stronger after the diet than I am going into it. I'll have to do pushups and pull ups to make sure that happens.

Hey mate, I have also gained some weight recently. But I don´t think it is the finasteride I am taking. The problem is I am bored all day and have nothing to do so I end up eating a lot. But I have now decided to do something about it, namely a more healthy diet with lots of apples, soups and vegetables. Good Luck to you.

Yeah, staying away from the fridge and pantry sounds like a good idea. But i think I'm going to plan what time I eat my meals, and have them pre-made and measured.

I lost a stone in a month and depite being 40+ I have a 31-32 waist again and look fit even if not so much.

I did lose it too quickly which was not good and may have helped trigger my hairloss this year.

Anyway, all I did was cut out Fat and sugar....So No crips, sugar, sweets, full fat milk, mayonaise and be dedicated to eating all low fat stuff by looking at the labess. Just make sure you don't lose it as quick as I did...I should have taken 3 months to lose a stone which would have been much healthier. What would help is to wieght train but take in some of those high protein milkshakes to ensure you are not starving your body.

Hope this helps

Try tomato plus lemon as a diet. It will make you wonders. You can eat with fruit. Of course you'll have to eat around three or four tomatos to kill your hunger. But it's worth a try.

Soups are very good at dinner.

Are you serious?!?! That's the best way for college to lose a ton of muscle mass. Tomatoes and lemons have no protein. Yeah, he'll drop weight, but it will be mostly muscle mass...So when he comes off his tomato/lemon diet, he'll get fat again very quickly. And will have an even harder time losing it due to less muscle.

College - for legs...this is going to sound crazy...But push your car. I'll bet your legs will burn like hell after 100 yards.
Or, if you have a rope, a piece of wood and a tire or 2, do sled drags.
Or, do step-ups with your 2 backpacks
Or, do lunges with your 2 backpacks
Or, do GHR's. Glute/Ham raises

See GHR links. http://www.youtube.com/results?search_q ... ute+raises

Yes i'm serious. He will have to eat for a long time. And when he reach desired weight he'll have to keep this diet though in a less restrictive manner.

IBM. Thanks for wanting to help, but I think I know why you are so thin.

Harie, the car idea sounds great, but I don't have a car, or tires. But I'll carry my packs up and down the stairs. As for the GHR's, I don't have access to a gym for 3 weeks, and even if I did, they look hard on the knees. But you gave me an idea. I'll lie on my belly on a table, and hang a backpack on my heals, secured somehow, maybe with two crossed straps, and I'll lift it with my ham strings, with my knees over mid air.

Yeah, I think having a thin waist will give me an athletic look too, if I can keep the muscle I currently have. I think I can keep it all, from some studies I read. 30% protein, 25% fat, 45% carbs, spread out evenly though the day, lots of water, heavy weights, and some leg cardio. Reduce total calorie intake by 500, and burn and extra 500 per day. That is 2 pounds lost per week, and probably no muscle lost. Maybe even build a tiny bit of slow twitch. Any more than that is not healthy. I'll do that for 4 weeks, then raise my carbs 250 over a week, then lower my cardio 250 and raise carbs again 250 the next week, and finally try to steady state.

Any idea how long it will take my skin to tighten up to where the reduced waist is?

Eating an all tomato and lemon diet is crazy. No protein = your body eats your muscles to get the protein it needs. Your body will rob every single ounce of muscle mass it can to get the needed protein.

Once your body has eaten away 10 lbs of your muscle, you'll actually burn less calories than you did with the 10lbs of muscle mass to begin with. Muscle burns calories. People that have a lot of muscle mass have an easier time losing weight than someone with little muscle mass.

1lb muscle burns an extra 50 calories per day. So, if on your diet, you lose 10lbs of muscle, you burn 500 less calories per day. So in order to just maintain weight, you'd need to remove 500 calories/day from your diet. 500 calories is 1 meal.

College hit it on the head. You're so skinny because of the way you're eating. Protein is your friend.

CCS, do you have any idea what your bf% is? Just curious, cause 145 seems super light for 5'8 dude. I can't imagine you're much higher then say 9% (without seeing your bone structure). Point is, maybe losing weight isn't your problem..

I thought you were recently trying to bulk up a bit, which will naturally add some unwanted fat (even with super clean diets, it's par for the course).

Just a suggestion, consider maybe not trying losing weight now.. It's winter, work now on getting even bigger by expanding your back/lats. Pull-downs, chins and rows bro. Once you've got a decent "V" established, worry about dropping weight for asthetics in the summer (abs :) )

(no gym? fine, you can do chins in a doorway or tree branch as last resort)

I know where the chip up bar is at the ROTC building. Yes, I'll do whatever heavy stuff I can do symulteneously.

As for my weight, I have no intention of staying at 145. I agree that is light. But it is light because I need to put on more muscle, not because my fat level is OK. I think at 8% body fat, you can see a full 6 pack. I can see the top two-four if I really flex and angle the light correctly, so I think I'm more around 12%.

Instead of focussing on my weight goals, think about my waist size. Do you think 34.5 inches is too big for a guy who is 5'8"? I think I should at least cut back to 32, and probably go to 31 or 30, though I'll stop if I see a 6 pack pop out before then. I just need to loose 5-10 pounds of fat without loosing any muscle, and hopefully building another half pound, and then I'll go back to my 2400 calorie diet and try to gain more mass, this time without the fat. I'm only going to cut back to 2000 calories. I'll bet 30% protein, 25% fat, and 45% carbs, and spread it out ot 8 250 calorie meals every 2 hours.

you are 145 pounds and have a 34.5 inch waist?. i am 5'9" 170 with a 32 inch waist. you are not telling the truth about one number or the other i dont think

that would mean you have roughly a 22% body fat percentage and no one would consider that to be in good shape.

People are built in all different shapes and sizes. Quoting figures is pointless.

I never said I was 145. I said I'm 155, and my goal is to reach 145. I have been 145 in the past. Anyway, your reasoning is messed up since my numbers are correct, and I'm in better shape than most people at my school. At least I can outperform my thin friends at running or strength.

Yes. Once I lose the fat off my belley, I have no intention of staying at 145. I plan to build muscle and climb to probably 155-160. I did not say I am 145 right now. That is just how much fat i want to lose.

My friends say I don't look fat at all. They say I look fit. But I see pleny of guys at the gym who look a lot fitter than me. 34.5 inches is too big a waist for a 5'8" guy. I want 30 inches.

yeah ill say its too big a waist. i dont think you can be in shape at that size and have a 35 inch waist. im not in fantastic shape and like i said my waist is 32 at 170. your body fat is almost certainly 15%+ at a 34.5 inch waist because you have belly fat and if you have belly fat like you said then you are not fit.
