I've been on finasteride for nearly 7 years, 1mg daily. It worked well for a while but in the past year I've lost ground, shedding increased all the time, and really starting to thin out. My serum DHT levels are the same from when I started finasteride, definitely not near zero but certainly finasteride/propecia is still doing what it does as far as DHT but it's not enough anymore. I've never had any side effects on propecia and after much research decided to make the switch to dutasteride (avodart).
Any experiences in switching? How should I best transition, or should I add dutasteride to my current treatment? I've considered three possible options.
1. Add 1-2 0.5mg dutasteride 2-3 times a week to my current regimen
2. Completely stop taking finasteride and go straight to dutasteride 0.5mg daily
3. Transition off, replacing dutasteride with finasteride over the course of maybe a month or few weeks, then take dutasteride daily instead of finasteride
Would like to minimize a massive shed since I'm already shedding as is.
