Was on it for about 3-4 months. Honestly, it may have helped a little (lots of vellus hairs), but I just got sick of applying the sh*t to my hairline every night. minoxidil I can handle, but there is just no way I can see myself applying the spironolactone every night for the rest of my life. The faint smell like musk or cheap cologne is getting quite tiring as well. I don't see it fitting my lifestyle, so I've quit using it, and if even I shed for a bit, so be it ;) I'll just ride it out and continue using the minoxidil and finasteride.

i looked at your regimen. So after 3 years of being on both finasteride and Min you were using topical spironolactone cream for 3-4 months and noticed vellous hairs? I guess you didn't recede anymore on the hairline either. Were you still receding on the hairline after 3 yrs on both finasteride and min? And did you notice any thickening after 3-4 months on spironolactone? I agree that applying topical spironolactone is a pain in the arse but it's only once/day at night right? As for the smell i would try adding eucalpytus oil (which you can get at probably any health store) and mixing it. Old Baldy recommended that and it does help lessen the smell on the cream and maybe even helps with absorption.

After being on minoxidil and finasteride for 3 years, my hair had already thickened up dramatically, but I continued to recede ever so slowly (I am still a Norwood 1.5, but inching towards an eventual Norwood 2).

I was hoping that I could add something else that would slow down or even give the hairline/temples region a boost, so I added spironolactone, and I saw new vellus hair growth, but nothing really turned terminal. I'd say spironolactone might slow the recession down and coax some vellus out (nothing spectacular), but it's not going to fit my lifestyle long term.

One topical is enough bother already, and if a second one doesn't add anything significant to the equation, it's not worth it to me to keep it in the regimen.

You don't have to use it everyday. Use it now and then. Don't abandon it completely. Sometimes is better than never IMHO.
