Hello :)

Im a 19 year old boy (turn 20 this summer), who the last year has experienced that my hair is getting thinner. Last week I went to see a doctor, who has lot of experience with male baldness, and he recommended Propecia right away. This is my second day using it and Im hoping that Im a great responder.
At the time its hard to see that Im losing hair (Fortunately!), but I have to stop it now, so it doesn't get worse. My uncle is almost completely bald and my grandfather had very little hair (both on my mothers side). They both started losing hair very early, and a couple of years into their 20's you could really see it.

It's so cruel to loose hair when your so young, I think. I really get depressed by it. So I really hope this will work for me.

I have thinned the most in the front, I would say, but also a bit in the crown..

What can I expect in the next months?
I have heard so many theories..
Are positive side-effects less acne and less bodyhair?..have anyone experienced that?
..Is it usual to shedd/loosing more hair than usual when you start with the treatment?
And someone says that it doesn't work so good in the front/hairline?

My doctor recommeded to begin with Propecia first, without using Rogaine.. So I could tell which on that works..

But I have also heard so much about Nizoral shampoo, does this stimulate the regrowth of hair?

you should take baseline pics and then forget about your situation until like 6-9 months

you will just go crazy thinking about your hair

you probably will do well considering your young age

ps you should post your pics its very helpful for people that want to give you advice

sorry yes go on nizoral 2% 2 or 3 times a week

it is an mild anti androgen "similar to propecia" and has been speculated to be as effective as minoxidil 2%

Thanks for responding=)
I have started with Nizoral shampoo as well:)

But does Propecia also work in the front/hairline?
..I really hope so, because thats my "worst" area..=/

And if I still have some hair in my temples can these be saved, and can I experience regrowth there? :)

2 weeks in now=)

Does it matter at which point of the day you take Propecia? And is it more effective if you take it on an empty stomach?

Does it always need to be 24 hours between each pill, or can I take it later on saturdays/sundays (when I tend to sleep longer), and have the same effect? :)

Im not sure if it helps any, but I took my propecia before I went to bed because testosterone levels are highest while sleeping.

Also taking on a empty stomach could increase absorption.

But have you had any effect by using Propecia?

Im taking it in the morning with my breakfast.. maybe I should change that?

Yep, you're absolutely right.

Don't worry, Propecia is safe (I've been taking it for 10 years and it's probably the only drug I've taken that had ZERO side effects) and effective, you'll do fine.

MAYBE you could use minoxidil 5% as well, both drugs work very well together. Talk to your doctor before you decide to use it.

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress! :)

Well, I've been taking finasteride for 10 years and I have a nice hairy chest. :)

I did have one side effect (a very positive one): my hair was extremely greasy and Propecia improved it. My scalp is always fresh and clean even if I don't wash it for three or four days.

Thanks for responding:)

I have thought about using minoxidil as well, but I want to see if Propecia alone will work first.. Both of practical and economical reasons..
My doctor also thinks its the best, and think it will work great for me:)

So great to hear that you haven't had any side-effects:)

At which point did you experience an improvement? and did your front hairline also get better?:)
At what age did you first start taking Propecia?

I've been on Propecia for 3 weeks today, and Im already noticing an increase in shedding when Im washing my hair..
Is this good or bad news?

how many hairs are you approx. shedding a day?

if its under 100 hairs per day than it isnt normally considered sheeding

shedding early usually means early results

the finasteride has jumped your resting follicles into growth mode
and hopefully less miniaturized re-growth

hope this helps

try and ride those sheds out

dont assess your situation too early
hair recovery take time so be patient

Thanks for responding:)

When I shampoo my hair I can count at least 30-50 hairs on my hands, so Im quite sure its a shed.. I cant remember loosing so much hair before, but maybe its just because Im just paying extra much attention to it now..

But if early shedding often means early results, I really hope its a shed :)

I see your taking finasteride as well.. when did you respond?=)

well when you say "respond" do you mean shed?
or like get results?

i seemed like i was losing more hair in the first 2 months (while showering) but probably no more than 100 hairs a day

now it seems like i lose around 30 hairs a day

im seeing the shorter hairs at my hairline getting longer (prob the minoxidil)

but its really too early to say im only 4 months in

but i think im bound for glory

hope this answered your question

and i hope you have a full recovery

cheers mate
