hi, just a placeholder thread to begin with really. i just wanted to let everyone know that i just popped my first fincar today and you'll soon be hearing updates on my situation i took some photos today to mark progress but i can't bring myself to upload them until i have something (hopefully) much better to contrast them with
but i'm 19 on the 8th of january and have just started finasteride. heavy NW2, with MAYBE a little bit of thinning- really can't tell.

sorry the pictures aren't great. i do them myself and that's that. never had any crown thinning or anything like that so i only took pictures from the one angle.

just a lil update to say, almost 3 months in, haven't missed a day yet. lost a hell of a lot of hairs in the shower today, could this be the beginning of the first shed? how long do they typically last?

also consider, it's perfectly normal to loose 100 hairs a day

I'm gonna keep an eye on your thread and see how you do man. Its most likely a shed, i'm dreading the day that my first one starts. But post pictures for better reference!

yeah, pics will go up once i hit the 3 or 4 month mark. i just don't wanna put them up now, the day 0 pics were pretty depressing and i can't really bring myself to take any more pictures quite yet

UPDATE: 4months and a week update posted. something like that. 17 weeks maybe? i don't know. there it is for you guys anyway.

been shedding for the last week or so. i don't really know what to think. the most recent pictures seem better to me but lighting is slightly different and - i don't know. i don't wanna count my chickens before they hatch. but the more recents seem a bit thicker and more healthy to me, and hairline also seems more V than U shaped?

ideally i'd use nizoral every 2 days maybe, but normally i do it every 3. maybe 4 if i don't have the time in the morning.
i wet my hair fully in the shower then put a bit of nizoral all over, rub it in a lil then wash it out straight away. then put more nizoral all over and rub it in and itll get a good lather and then i'll leave it in for as long as it takes me to wash.

Looks to me like some thickening. Not sure, though. Try to always take the pictures under the same light conditions. Makes it easier to judge!

Definite improvement, hairline looks much stronger and thicker. Keep up the good work.

Where abouts are you sourcing your finasteride from mate?

Yep, I've been on finasteride (from inhouse as well), minoxidil and nizoral for nearly 2 years now I'd say!

Holding pretty steady at the moment (crown looks perfect) although my temples are starting to disagree with me a bit. I've been considering spironolactone or RU for awhile now.

what about just upping the dose of finasteride? that's what spencer kobren says he did + always recommends, says it works for him.

Never really thought about it to be honest. I thought I recalled a study/graph that showed the benefits of taking more than 1mg were pretty negligible and not worth the hassle for the most part.

Interesting though, cheers. I might give it a shot considering how easy and cheap finasteride is.

RU would probably be ideal for me at this stage (on paper anyway), but I'm not really convinced by it. There is such a lack of stories reporting success with it that I really don't think it justifies having me add another topical, especially one priced so highly, nor is it worth the bother it takes to setup etc.

Have you thought about adding minoxidil or are you happy with your current regime? I, like you, initially just started with finasteride+nizoral for the first year and a bit. It definitely stabilised, but I didn't see much noticeable regrowth at the temples which led me to add minoxidil. Doesn't look like you are having the same issue though tbh, I'm pretty shocked how much finasteride has helped your front half.

i've definitely thought about min. if it was another pill i'd take it, but i have long hair and i'm only 19 and the thought of rubbing something into my scalp for the rest of my life is pretty scary. specially given how crazy some min sheds can be.

thebaldtruth isn't working for me at the moment but google 'when propecia stops working' and there should be a thebaldtruth link up there which has an interview or something in audio, it's what i've always linked people who've had problems with finasteride losing effectiveness.

Hey man, your hair is looking great! :woot: You can tell its a lot better because your later pictures are under brighter light and its a lot harder to see your scalp.

btw yea min is kind of a compromise, but since i've been on my hair growth rate has shot up, it grows to your length in under 4 months now so sheds aren't too bad. Although I do agree that with longer hair sheds will have more of an impact visually (especially the first one, im glad my hair was short for that).

hey, thanks man i hadn't really looked at them both together in all that much detail cause i was pretty scared of the outcome but i think you're right, there does seem to be a lot of thickening up going on.

i'm still not shuttin down the idea of using min but right now at least it's not on the menu, i wanna see how finasteride goes for now.

5 1/2 month update. tried to take a few pictures but the focus on my camera is screwed up so i'm gunna have to delay them for a day or two while i figure out what's wrong.
hair definitely seems to be improving. still seem to be losing quite a few hairs (if i don't wash my hair for a while and then do, a lot come out afterwards) but my hairline definitely seems better even than it was on the last photo update. went to LA for a few weeks and got some pretty nasty ball ache on the planes back but that was 5 days ago and haven't had any problems since. libido still works fine (had more of a problem *not* getting hard than getting hard when i was out there, lol) and no nipple soreness or anything.

again, sorry about no photo updates. but i'll get them in soon and that's how things are going.

since my last post i havent bothered to look at fixing my camera, sorry... it got close enough to the full 6 month mark that i figured id just wait. but here's an update to say i had some f*cking horrible ball ache yesterday and watery semen today. kinda yellow, too...?
still no problem actually getting hard or anything.
but my god ball ache is bad, lol... im grateful that it happened when i was at home cause i literally spent like 30-45mins in agony. woulda been pretty embarassing the positions i was pulling, in public.

definitely gunna keep going and try to ride thru it but in a month or two if i still keep getting these sides then i'm gunna cut my dose slightly.
