Greetings!

Is there anyone here who has used dutasteride for ~1 year? Any results?

Since, dutasteride is at least (as I know) 3 years on the market, may be, someone can respond about its efficiency and side effects at this or similar time milestones.

Thanx

Thanks for reply.

At this moment, can you say you have no more hairloss? And what month on dutasteride did you realise it had stopped (if it's stopped:))?

I would say my hairloss has stopped but sometimes you have to go backwards to go forwards. I still have sheds and at first my hair looks sh*t again but then, when it grows back it looks better than before! I would say you should give finasteride a try first. The dutasteride took about 3mths to start working which is when I had my first big shed but you could speed this up with a loading dose of 2.5mg a day for about 2 weeks then cut back to 0.5mg a day. I hope this helps you. :)

I'm currently on finasteride for 6 months. And suffer a shed for a month. Truly saying, hair became thicker and healthier. That's why I think it's a shed.

I know I should give at least a year for finasteride. I will give it even more than a year :) But at this moment I'm thinking about reserve treatment if finasteride would fail.

oni - when you shed did your hair become very thin and how long did the shed last?

Yes it did look thinner and it was more like a series of mini sheds my first lasted about 2 months. When I say mini sheds I mean only one part of my head effected by male pattern baldness shed and this would start from the point where my male pattern baldness started at my crown and spiraled out but the first place to grow back was the last to shed. I find that very strange lol!

Oni, Had you tried finasteride before starting dutasteride? And, If so, was it still working when you switched? Thanks...

I did for about 5 months but I just shed nonstop and my hair looked like sh*t and I never shed like that on dutasteride so I stopped taking finasteride for about 4 months and started on dutasteride and things are going well for me.

I never had any side effects on finasteride and only a little side effect on dutasteride for only 2 weeks this went away.

I did try mixing dutasteride 0.5mg and finasteride 1.25mg a day after being on dutasteride for 3 months but this just caused me to shed on and off for the 4 months that I did this for, so I stopped the finasteride and now I am on just dutasteride 0.5mg a day.

I am not knocking finasteride but it's not for me it just caused me to shed. :) but I would try it before dutasteride.

Breaking news Scot.

Everybody reacts differently to the drug. It's useless waiting for someone else, because no one reacts the same to it.

On another note, hasn't this stuff been used for prosate for so many years?

5/6 years? well, these people havent died yet, so I guess it's quite safe.

5 or 6 years isn't that long....finasteride has been around for a long time and has been used by millions...the same thing can't be said about dutasteride...

Well, there is 4 year followup for avodart (below) showing side-effects seem do decrease with continued use. Monitoring continues, so at least I dont feel like im the only guinea pig. The only difference is that avodart users are somewhat older than me and will probably not take it as many years as I intend to. That is probably as well studied as any drug that helps hair loss will be, but I wouldnt hold my breath for any other new systemic drugs for hair-loss (as pharmaceuticals want 500 million/year to get a drug approved, and hair loss sufferers are apparently too stingy (cutting proscar and all  )).

4 year avodart followup....

A total of 2,802 men were randomized into the double-blind phase of the two studies; 1,908 completed the two year double-blind portion. In the open-label phase, 1,570 subjects were enrolled, 778 of whom previously received placebo, and 792 who previously received Avodart. Overall, 569 subjects received Avodart for 4 years.1

.... long-term treatment resulted in a low incidence of drug-related side effects. The incidence of drug-related side effects decreased with duration of treatment. In year four, the most frequently observed drug-related side effects for men treated with Avodart for four years were: gynecomastia (breast enlargement and breast tenderness) (1%); impotence (0.4%); ejaculation disorders (0.1%).

I heard dutasteride has the tendancy to make white people talk with jamaican accents and walk with a limp... is that true?

If I get a big natural afro to go with the jamaican accent I would accept that, happily... heh heh, that would be cool. :hairy:

Hi Oni

Sorry for being a little off-topic, but may I ask if it is beneficial to use Nizoral if I am just using Propecia alone (i.e. no topical treatments)?

Thanks!
