hey everyone,

ive been on propecia for 3.5 months and while i am still losing hair and density big time, i have not seen an increase in the number of hairs im visibly losing (shower, on shirts and pillow etc). i have not seen any signs that propecia is working, but its still early and im not worried.

however i did notice something strange. i did a pull test on the sides of my head right above my sideburns and at the lower back of my head, and was able to easily pull out 3 hairs from each area. everyone in my family with hairloss has hair in these areas and it is thick as if its not stricken by male pattern baldness (which is not cuz no anagen receptors)

anyway this leads me to believe something else is going on. while i am genetically disposed to lose my hair, the sides thing hints at another cause. has anyone encountered this problem or asked a dermatologist? im seeing my derm march 25 but would rather not wait to get some sense of whats going on.

i suppose it could be hairs that are entering resting stages, but i dont think i could ever pull hairs out like that from my sides so something has changes.

let me know if you have any thoughts!

peace.

3 hairs is not really much. But if you really have hairloss in these areas (occipital hair is not affected by male pattern baldness) there could be another reason for your hairloss. Are you a diffuse thinner ?

no i would not say im a diffused thinner. receding in the front, left side much worse than right, some vertex thinning -- but definitely not diffuse like people on this site that have hair all over its just thinned out.

i lose 3 hairs with a simple grab of a tiny area. i lose more if i grab more if you get what i mean.

any thoughts on what this could be?

At this time of the year, it could be the "summer" shed. Or, you could be shedding normally. Every time I shed, I lose hair all over.. and not just in the male pattern baldness laden places.
