Hey guys, I just wanna check something with some of you. Disclaimer, this post is about boners, and it might be quite long (pun possibly intended) so, apologies about that

How often do you wake up with morning wood? this question is directly aimed at anyone who uses/has used finasteride in the past, and maybe even people who never touched finasteride but currently use minoxidil.

Firstly, a quick history on me. I took finasteride briefly about 10 years ago or so. I also took a few 0.5 doses last year but quit it due to paranoia probably.

Anyway, Prior to ever touching finasteride I would always have serious morning wood. the kind where you struggle to aim at the toilet... lol. I've never in 10 years since messing with finasteride ever had morning wood like that. I still get like, half-assed ones SOMETIMES (70% strength maybe) that pretty much go away as soon as I step out of the bed, but never the actual rock-solid ones that persist annoyingly into the bathroom that I used to have.

Now, for the most part, I've not worried about this and got on with my life, as I don't seem to have any of the other dreaded lingering side effects associated with finasteride. I can still have sex. still, have sexual thoughts, and I am in very good shape. I gym regularly and have no problem building muscle, so I like to believe my hormones aren't screwed. I look very masculine for all intents and purposes.

Ultimately I wouldn't give a sh*t, but every time I do research into morning wood via google searching, I am always inundated with articles about how important it is, and how lack of morning wood is a cause for concern. an example of one I found on the first page of google search:
https://www.getroman.com/romanhood/morning-wood/
No idea if that sites legit but it's essentially one of many. On this particular site, some doctor is quoted saying:

“If I could only ask a man one question to assess his health, it would be, ‘Do you wake up with an erection?’” – Dr. Steven Lamm"

Reading that kind of quote makes me think I should be trying to get morning woods back somehow.

If this ISN'T, in fact, an effect of taking finasteride, it MIGHT be minoxidil as I think ever since I've been losing hair, I've always pretty much been on that. but not until very recently have I EVER considered minoxidil to be the cause considering its side effect profile. However, it's the only drug I'm taking currently, so alas, I'm gonna take 2 weeks off it starting from today just to see and report back. I'd obviously like to take more time off it, and I might, but I know I'll be shedding whatever hair I have left the longer I stay off it.

Anyone else ever lose their morning wood but then get it back? Maybe there are some supplements I should be taking maybe?

Kind regards and hope you're all having a good weekend.

well admittedly, I know nothing about that website or that doctor. just a link I found haha. I will take a break from minoxidil for a while and see what happens anyway.

You have elections in the Night anyway, I haven’t had any erwction in the morning for years but it’s fine because I get them in the middle of the night. This, dr Steven Lamm is an ACTUAL moron and a sharlatan
oh but out of curiosity, are you on finasteride or have you ever taken it? what about minoxidil?

I used to have morning wood like you said before taking finasteride, the strong ones where you struggle to pee, but I don't remember if I had those every single day of my life, I remember having them as a kid, I never paid attention to it really.
Then I used finasteride for 3 years.
Then I started having side effects and found out that finasteride messes with your morning erections, which are supposed to be important. So I started paying attention and realized I was having no morning erections whatsoever (never paid attention to it during the 3 whole years so not really sure when did they vanish, or even if they dissapeared before finasteride).
Anyway, I quit finasteride and 2 weeks later morning erections appeared again, but very weak ones that went soft literally 20 seconds after waking up.
Now I've been 3 months off and morning erections are there almost every day and last longer, minutes even I believe, but they don't seem as strong, but I can't remember how strong they were before finasteride.

Never touched finasteride, took minoxidil many years ago. I am 37 and have morning boners every morning (when I am slow at dragging my *** out of bed I can see that I have a few boners in the actuallym ). I also randomly wake up at night with massive ones. I don't really know what's the frequency at night.

I recommend you do the stamp test and see if you have boners at night when you are not aware.

I appreciate the input everyone.

I'm pretty sure I do have nighttime erections as if I weren't having them, then wouldn't my dick be in trouble? I have no issues other than the apparent lack of morning wood. I can also remember sometimes waking up in the middle of the night with one. Again I personally wouldn't care other than the literature seeming to be pointing at the fact that it's a normal phenomenon that most men should have. Also the fact I used to actually have them before messing with hair loss drugs. That's why I'm experimenting/looking into it more.

I'll stay off minoxidil for a week or two, (I really doubt this is what's causing it) but I just wanna cover all bases, and then maybe i'll abstain from sex and masturbation for some time and see what happens.

I would put the worry about Minoxidil causing issues with your erections aside. this has never been shown in the literature and minoxidil has been around for over 30 years. I’ve also been using it for almost six years.

Quick question because I'm not that knowledgeable on the matter. Wouldn't masturbating everyday shield the same results?

I'm talking out of my *** right now but to me it seems that there s a major difference between masturbation and nocturnal or random boners: one is more dependent on manual stimulation while the other one is pure brain power. Masturbation might keep the tissue fit hut I doubt it'll match the benefits of random boners.

night erections are purely the hormonal system keeping the penis healthy. It’s how doctors differentiate between mental and physical erectile dysfunction. If you can’t get erections when you want to but you still get night time erections then the cause is likely to be psychological.

I try and avoid personal reviews as it can be difficult to judge those reports objectively although the studies are interesting.

If it is in fact an anti androgen after all then it must still be very weak compared to Finasteride,
And it’s other function as a potassium opener to allow more nutrients to reach the follicles being more pronounced.

Thats just wrong a sexual erwxtion during masturbation is always brain as well. When I’m sad and depressed and not in the right mood it’s totally different
Have you not heard of people who can't get erections unless manually stimulated?
