It tells you right in the instructions and also right on the bottle that if you stop you will lose all gains.

Did you ever read those?

yes but having began to use finasteride i foolishly assumed that it would maintain what i had gained through minoxidil due to me having a poor understanding of the proposed mechanism of action of both drugs.....and it dosent say that on the bottle

What kind do you use? It says that on every bottle of liquid or foam that I've ever used both name brand and generic. I'm looking at it right now on a bottle of Rogaine foam and a bottle of Kirkland generic liquid.

Anyway, since you're using both finasteride and minoxidil now, there's a very good chance you'll get that hair back plus some. These two treatments work very well together. I used minoxdil for 4 years before starting finasteride and it worked ok, but once I started the finasteride, hair growth really took off.

Good to hear. I have been fighting male pattern baldness since 18ish. Was on Finasteride and minoxidil (only on the temples) for 4.5 year until the age of 23-24sh as a diffuse balder. Regrew and maintained. Stopped finasteride at the age of 23-24ish and sticked to minoxidil only on the temples as and my hairloss stablized. Recently started diffuse thinning again and added minoxidil to the whole top of my head at the age of 29ish. Hoping to hold on to my current hair for a couple of years while my wife and I make babies over the next 4 years. I will probably restart finasteride thereafter.

thanks for the advise guys much appreciated! if only i had known i never would have stopped! the only positive im taking is that i have always been a very strong responder to minoxidil, and my shedding seems to have stopped in the last 2 days (ie when i put the mino in there isnt tons of hairs coming away)...and might just be in my head but maybe looks slightly thicker.....so im praying it was a bad shed ive been having since starting back on the minoxidil!

i always just assumed the finasteride would hold onto anything the minoxidil had gained, how foolish was i! hopefully i can continue to strengthen it, but retaining what i have now is all i want really as much more shedding like i had and id have to think about shaving my head!

No no, my dear friend. Minoxidil is a life long deal. Once you regrow your hair, you should go on a maintenance program, using minoxidil.
