Dear all,
I heard mixed reviews about this. I bought one today for 25$ (one month supply). I applied it on my scalp. Oh my god I don't believe it. It is so great. It looks as if I didn't apply anything.

I have used all minoxidil products (Dr. Lee's 5%, with and without ppg, with and without retinA, with and without Azelaic acid, 15%, 12.5%, rogaine brand, walmart brand, sams club brand). I rate the minoxidil foam the best.

I am still waiting for my transplant hairs. I am a NW5, so it is easy to apply on my scalp directly. However, if you are NW2 or so Dr. Lee's regular minoxidil (#500) might be better for you.

My hair transplant doctor has advised me to stop using xandrox 15 as he believes that is the cause for non-stop irritation in my recipient area. I am planning to switch to this foam once a day for now with Lee's 5% for the other application (Just in case the foam is not as effective as the solution).

Thanks for the update techprof. A few questions.

1. Why do you say that the #500 is better than the foam for NW2 and so.

2. Where did you buy the foam from.

3. When and how do you apply it?

A link will be awesome.

Thanks

Any idea about it's systematic absorbtion compared to liquid versions? This would be the only issue that would interest me, if it's absorbed less, everyone should be using it...

I love the foam as well! When I first apply it I feel out of it for about 30 minutes, but the good news is when I apply it , my hair is thicker and easier to style without haircare products a defiante reccomendation for people on the go and in the morning. At night I use regular minoxdil applicator to make sure I am applying it in the areas I need specifally. Quick question I am a general diffuser if I apply minoxdil in my frontal area will the only the frontal area reap the benefiits or should I apply more to cover all areas of thinning??????

hairhair,
if you have lot of hair, I am not sure how the foam will affect your hairs in the way you style them. For me I can't style my peach fuzz anyway. Dr. Lee's can applied to particular spots without touching any hairs. Hence I think it might be better for Nw2. There is no way you can apply this foam to NW2s without wasting some of it in the hair.

I bought it in the local eckerds store. Wallgreens/CVS also carry it. Three month package costs 50$

I follow the instruction. Squeeze the foam to my palm. Apply these foams arbitrarily in the weak areas and massage my hair and the scalp. I do believe that even for me the 0.5 cup (the recommended dosage by the manufacturer) is way more than required. this product spreads very well. So a one month product will probably last 40 days or more for me (if applied twice a day).

Felk, I am not sure yet. I will be happy if it absorbs as much as the regular rogaine/minoxidil.

This does not contain ppg. It has glycerin, and a whole lot of crap like citric acid, etc.

thanks techprof...

So whats the advantage that foam has over liquid. I am thinkin to stick with the liquid. but i dont wanna lose any advantage of the foam.

hairhair, the advantage of the foam is that it is quick drying and cosmetic friendly. I don't expect any other benefit from regrowth perspespective.

The foam does not contain ppg. This means that it is likely to cause irritation and inflammation which can be harmful in the long run.

why don't they make minoxidil with linoleic acid instead of PPG? Wouldn't that have just as much penetration?

I wish I could buy the pure powder.

i'm bothered by the thought of the alcohol too. If ethanol fucks up your body, I'm sure it is not good for your skin either. It's just better than other alcohols.

just look at what ethanol does to the faces of alcoholics. you don't think it will do that to your scalp as well? It's 30%. That is stronger than most wines, and you use it twice a day.

college,
the rogaine foam does not contain ethanol. so you might want to try it.

Uh oh...will try this in the morning. It takes so freaking long for regular rogaine to REALLY dry. (3-4 hours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Techprof, I have a question about the applicator.

Does the bottle allow for you to apply directly to the scalp?

Or do you have to squeeze the foam out, onto your hands? (Like foaming hand-soap)

aplunk,
you can apply directly to your scalp, but you still need to massage with your fingers.
I end up using less than half the cap. so it might turn out to be more cost effective than regular rogaine.

don't worry, you finger tips and palms don't have follicles. and they have thick skin.
