Low Ferritin/Med induced hairloss and Rogaine?

Hello everybody. I am brand new to this board and need help.

I started Wellbutrin XL 150mg 10 months ago and recently realized that I have lost an enormous amount of my already thin, fine hair. It is very obvious, diffuse thinning that is especially thin at my left temple and entire top/vertex. From the back, I look likeI have 3 huge parts running down my skull.

I saw a remarkably uninformed dermatologist who immediately diagnosed hereditary Androgenetic Alopecia and put me on Rogaine 2%. I've been using it for three weeks, and I hate it.

Now, after doing tons of online research and reading your posts, I realized that my hair loss may nbe due to low iron or anti-depressant use.

Here are my other possible contributing factors: Ferritin is 24, I also take Klonopin and Trazodone nightly, and I was popping Advil like M&Ms (ibuprofen also causes hair loss.) I've quit the Advil, am tapering off the Klonopin (no fun), and am doubtful it's the Traz because I've taken that for a decade with no problems. And I'm taking iron supplements.

Here are my questions: Should I be on Rogaine if this is a medication/low iron induced Telogen Effluvium? I hear it can do more harm than good.

My thyroid checked out fine, by the way.

Thank you for any advice!

Sasha,
I have similar issues like you did. I have had a tremendous amount of thick, hair....started on Trazodone for anxiety on June 8th. I only took 25mg and slowly increased to almost 50mg. Was on for almost a month and only noticed I had significant hair loss on July 8th...so I stopped taking trazodone. After hearing from a dermatologist and the quack that prescribed the traz..they both told me it was anxiety induced. If that were the case I'd be bald years ago! I never even had this much hair loss after having my son 2 years ago!

I saw a holistic Dr. 2 weeks after starting the trazodone, and she ran blood tests on me for everything (before I even noticed the hair loss!) Turns out after getting back the lab results... my ferritin is 24, my iron total is 149 (which she said was good) however I'm not storing my iron well. I also have a Vitamin D deficiency. I'm now on 325mg of Iron with Vitamin C supplement.

I feel like the hair loss was a lot worse last month, but now I'm not even sure! I see some sporadic hair growth near my bangs, but I'm still loosing about 125 or more a day. I stopped counting a few days ago (Since it was well over 150+).
Every morning I flip my head and run my fingers through and look at the shed. It's been the same the last 2 weeks. I'm coming up on my 1 month stopping trazodone on Wednesday. I hear drug induced telogen effluvium should start tapering off or stop at that time. Doesn't look like that's the case for me.

I'm just wondering if anyone here has had the same issue?, how long did it take to grow back? (or have noticeable growth)? I'm driving myself crazy trying to find answers to give myself some hope. This is depressing.
