Over the past 5-6 months ive made a conscious effort to keep my Glycemic Index (GI) low. Listed below is mainly what what my meals consisted of.

Carbs: Brokerly, Brussel Sprouts, Beans, Sweet Potato, Apples, Pears, Wholemeal Bread, Oatmeal.

Fat: Raw Cashews (unsalted), Peanut butter, egg yolk.

Protein: Boiled Chicken Breast, Tuna, Egg whites and Whey Protein Shakes.

I drink water only. Had the occasional multi-vitamin.

Now at first eating foods without that sugar spike was incredibly hard. After a lifetime of eating salty, high fat, sugar filled, massive portion sized meals my body litterally went into shock, my skin broke out and my hair started to shed and became even more limp. My body was very shocked by this sudden change in diet. I felt weak and heavy all the time because my blood sugar was so low, I was used to that high peaking energy boost. I was tempted to give up, but i just kept telling myself i was suffering from some kind of withdrawel from high sugar food. I won't lie its taken a good 4-5 months for me to finally reap the benefits of this diet, along with a weights training regime at my local gym. Anyway as a result of keeping my GI low, most noticably is the improvements to my skin, facially its alot more smooth and less blotchy. Skin, Nails and Hair often go hand in hand and my hair is no exception, I have not seen it this healthy and thick for years. There is no doubt in my mind that this is a result of my low GI diet in combination with my Rogaine Foam, finasteride and work out regime. The secret is consistancy. I had this kind of diet in the past, but I would always blow it on the weekend by having a high GI snack, this kind of thing is no good! The only time I ate higher GI foods was was after a workout because it can be used to re-fuel the muscles, but eventually I stopped eating high GI all together.

So many people talk about the BIG 3. Well in my opinion it should be the BIG 5.

1. finasteride
2. minoxidil
3. nizoral
4. Diet (low GI)
5. Excercise

Without the final two pieces of the puzzle, I dont believe your maximizing your full hair growth potential.

I think people get carried away with dieting. I think throughout all of history people enjoyed themselves through food and drink. Its one of the fine things in life and to not eat things that taste good is like not having sex ever your just totally screwing yourself out of one of lifes joys.

Exercise is good for your general health, I don't think it really plays a big role in hair loss.

if exercise/diet can affect heart health or skin heath, why not hair health?

I agree with this. Eating is one of lifes pleasures. But actually this weekend gone I finally wilted and cheated on my diet after about a total of 5 months and I just went on an all out binge eating everything from mc donalds, to pizza. You know what was most satisfying? The first bite. It tasted soooo good. But the more I ate the more disgusting I felt and the less delcious it tasted. All I could taste was salt. It was at this point I realised that these foods are not as pleasurable as everyone makes them out to be. The food nature has provided for us is FAR more satisfying. You cant beat a good apple or a perfectly ripe orange mmmmm *drools*

It's good to hear the low GI diet is working, 'cause that's exactly what I'm doing right now to help me with my skin condition. I'm in the skin break-out stage right now myself (3 weeks in). Hopefully things turn for the better from now on. And it's not about "not being able to enjoy life", like some fool suggested. It's just choosing what you'll eat, and in most cases the healthy food is also good! Now instead of eating like 3 slices of bread in the evening I'm going for scrambled egg & bacon or natural yoghurt with apple. Not that bad a choice?

Great to hear man! Yeah the breaks outs are phenominal. Your whole body is just detoxing and removing toxins through ur skins etc. You will wake up with disgusting crap in yout mouth (toxins) for a few weeks or months. I looked like death for quite a few months, very pale and miserable. But if you stick to the plan you will reap the benefits in around 4-5 months time. Your skin will improve dramatically. Im staggered by my results and im not just saying that.

Slowburn: Im not an emo. Im just into metal and the hard rock scene. In case you havent noticed the new breed of rocker is very dare i say "metrosexual" looking after skin and body etc. I think its a good thing. I dont want to look 50 when im 30 thanks. But if you want to go for it and ill still be dating girls in there teens :p

So you're a pedophile?
Judging by your pic you carry the emo look.
You can do all the self health things you want, at some point your genetics are going to take over.
If your DNA says for you to look 50 when you're 30, that's what is going to happen.
BTW how old are you anyways?

The dude in the picture looks trendy as hell...

"i listen to this type of new rock music and so i am going to dress this way" it is ffuckiing lame as hell.

You go to a rock show and thousands of these emaciated dudes and the emo comb over thing, plugs in their ears, doing karate shhit in the pit and talking about ninja's all of the time.

I am not saying that metaldude is one of these people, but these type of people do dishearten me.

I have to agree with you metalheaddude
,

For years we have been "hooked" on sugar and salt. They are both more addictive than any drug including cocaine or even heroin. The worst of the situation is that they are both silent addictions, ones in which people have literally without knowing because high sugar and high salt foods are a staple part of our diets, especially today! This is somewhat considered "normal".

Without any doubt both sugar and salt, as present as they are in our diets today, cause us an enormous amount of health related problems both directly and indirectly effecting the physiological, biological and mental states of human beings.

Not many people truly understand what it means to eat well, to eat healthily, but the majority do understand what it means to gorge themselves on enormously portioned plates of unhealthy saturated, high salt and high glycemic foods.

Eating healthy, truly healthily, is one of the most enjoyable things a person can do. The benefits are enormous to not only your biological health, but every facet of your life. If you can actually get over the detoxification phase, you will never look back to eating poor quality food ever again.

But of course this all takes a great deal of effort which is one thing most people wish not to exert. They're lazy and pigs to boot and so to, they, we, have health problems of what seems to be an immeasurable scale.

Diet, Breathing, Water and Sunlight are they key fundamentals of a healthy lifestyle. If you ignore any of these you're f#$ked contrary to what any bullshit miracle pill promises you. Hair loss, as is all else is a result of YOU adapting to your environment both INTERNALLY and EXTERNALLY. But seldom does anyone ever understand that.
