You'll need to give us a little more info. Are you male? What Norwood are you? How low do you want it? How old are you?

Sab,
There are plenty of good hairline docs around. Ron Shapiro is problably the best known hairline Doctor, but I also recommend my doctor, Dr. Sharon Keene. Keep in mind that if you are only going to get hairline work, study the doctor's results carefully. Each doctor has his/her own characteristics, which are particularly noticable in the hairline. The differences might be subtle, but they are real. In my case, Dr. Keene did an excellent job in hairline placement and framing my face. In fact, I looked at that ratio you talk about. It is spot on with me. Some doctors are really conservative and will not deviate from their conservative hairlines.

Sab,

Have you in fact been diagnosed with male pattern baldness by a doctor or is this strictly for cosmetic purposes? Do you have male pattern baldness in either side of your family history?

sabahouns,

You really should wait on doing any surgery and if you are diagnosed with male pattern baldness then you owe it to yourself to see where you hairloss is headed. Also look at uncles, cousins, brothers, all the males on both sides, even the women. My mother has genetic hairloss for example.

In nearly three decades of following hairloss on patients I can tell you that those younger guys in their late teens and early to mid twenties that begin signs of male pattern baldness almost always end up in the advanced classes of the Norwood scale. The fundamental problem is there will never be enough donor to cover the entire top of one's scalp unless cloning, HM, etc comes into reality. Something has to give.

Also read up on shockloss for sure. If you have little genetic hairloss right now at the age of 27, you could stand to lose ALOT MORE by having hairline work done or any surgery period. The weak debilitated natural hairs typically do not come back so you end up having to chase your hairloss and that's definitely not a place you want to put yourself into. :freaked:

And I would not start any hairloss meds until you have been formally diagnosed with male pattern baldness. Get in to see a reputable doctor as soon as possible because if you do in fact have male pattern baldness, the more you can save now THE BETTER. Just ask of us who have lost alot of natural hair. You can get proactive without doing surgery right now. :) Best wishes to you man.

Oh I forgot to mention that you may want to look in the NYC area and you'll find three to five talented reputable docs there for advice.

You're welcome. Well, if you did some research and found some NYC docs then you found one of my sponsoring doctors. The other ones I recommend are Dr. Dorin, Dr. Bernstein, Dr. Feller. These docs will not try and sell you surgery either but be patient because they are very experienced, talented and in demand.
