From what I understand, no decent doctor will give someone under 25 a hair transplant because there is a chance that person could lose so much more hair after the procedure that they would look terrible.
They want to know that you're hairloss is relatively stabalized, often asking people to try treatments for a year or so then come back. They don't want someone walking around with a terrible obvious hair transplant dragging their name through the dirt for anyone who asks... understandable!
I've also read that no one under NW3 should be getting a transplant. I'm not sure why this is. Will a doctor turn you down? Ok I could see if you were a NW2 with hairloss only in the temples. That's really not noticible or bad looking. But what about crown thinning on top of it?
I'm 21 and using proscar. Hopefully it will maintain my current situation for a good 5 years, at which point I will be old enough to be able to get a hair transplant. Finasteride is no miracle though, and I will probably continue to thin in my 20s. Will a doctor refuse to do a procedure until I've lost enough hair to be noticibly balding?
I'm thinking if I can slow down hair loss over the next 5-7 years then fill things in with a rather small amount of grafts in the crown and up front later on, I would be *happy* overall with my hair situation.
Do you think I have to wait until my hair loss is quite bad to be able to get hair transplant even if I'm old enough?
(which makes me think- that would suck because if you have to wait until your hairloss is rampant and then you come back with almost total coverage it's going to be SO obvious what you did. It would be so much better to start out with thinning hair using a concealer or something for a few months, take vacation and get the hair transplant, come back still using concealers, then just stop using them.)
Anyone with experience dealing with hair transplant surgeon psychology have any input?
