Making A Template With A Decent Amount Of Hair Remaining

I am going to try wearing again. I am tired of applying rogaine, taking propecia/dutasteride and using topik and my hair still looks like sh*t. I am doing a custom piece and was thing light density. I need advice though on making a template with a current head of hair and keeping my hair in the mean time as a custom unit takes about 8 weeks. Any tips would be appreciated. Also roughly how much hair is needed for a sample?

If you're tired of applying rogaine now, wouldn't the upkeep of the hairsystem be an issue too?

I guess what I mean is I am tired of doing all the effort of rogaine/topik and everything and my hair looks like sh*t. at least if I put some more effort towards it I will hopefully have decent looking hair.

Hi Brandnew

Just plaster your hair down on your scalp with gel. You are going to be putting plastic film on top anyway. The thing to remember is that the template doesn't have to be accurate to the last millimetre - the various base materials have a bit of 'give' in them, so fit is not usually an issue. It just has to indicate the size and shape of the area on which you need coverage, and broadly the curvature of your scalp.

Any hair sample is better than none, but the ideal is a little swatch about the diameter of a pencil and an inch long, fastened together at one end with sticky tape. Then the manufacturer can keep it on file for future units.

Making a template on hair shouldn't affect the outcome. Use gel or water to flatten hair. As Noah says systems have some leeway and can be adjusted at fitting. I always start a template overlarge and cut down.
