I've been on Finasteride since October with some mild degradation since then as my temples and forelock are continuing to thin. After hearing Ashton Kutcher admit to taking Avodart for 10+ years I see no reason not to try it out. If I maintain on it I will consider it a success over Finasteride.

What worries me is I've heard of user's hair going further to sh*t after starting Duta. This could just be that their male pattern baldness was just too aggressive and beat out treatment. Those of you that are on it or have made the switch before, did it help you? If not I'll be making that lovely jump from NW2 to NW3 in under a year, guaranteed.

Im thinking of doing the same but wouldn't mind hearing everyone's opinions

Didn't work for me. Frontal shedding. Was on for approx 9 months. Back to finasteride. However I am glad I tried it. Now I know.

The anecdotal reports of people's hairlines getting rekt from it do make me wary, but then long term success stories like Ashton's make me curious. As with many hairloss treatments it is a rolling of the dice it seems

However the day I start losing ground again on finasteride I will without hesitation be popping my first dutasteride tablet within minutes

I'm on it for about 10-11 weeks. My hairline went to sh*t pretty much and there is no sign of new hairs so I'm f*cked. I will stay on it for at least 6 months since the damage is already done. Don't know what to do to be honest. But again duta is still better drug for Androgenetic Alopecia overall for majority of people.

Ashton Kutcher?

Yes. Recently in Dax Shepherd's podcast he revealed that he took dutasteride for a decade. Dax also admitted that he is currently using anti-androgens to maintain his hair

Thank you all for your own personal reports. Now I'm slightly more hesitant about making the switch as a couple of you have reported negative results. Damn you, Ashton.

I'm on it about 5 months 4 times a week with Finasteride on the off days. I was on Finasteride for about 8 years but started to lose ground and had this insane itch. So far the itch is completely gone but I've definitely gone through a mild shed and would consider myself below base level. My frontal third has definitely taken a hit but that was my weak point so to speak so proportionally speaking any loss would be felt/more noticeable there. Shed has definitely slowed down lately and my hair feels thicker. I'm going to give it the year and review it then.

Can someone explain if adding RU as a receptor blocker for (especially) testosterone could work? Because I can't find any explanation besides follicles being more prone to damage from testosterone (vs DHT) on the hairline? So, the combination of RU + duta.

I've decided to update at 150 days rather than 120 to show, hilariously enough, how adding some length can help with aggressive diffuse thinning. It may be unwise but I'm probably removing minoxidil from my regimen as I think I'm a nonresponder. More to come in a couple weeks.

Yeah I always have the urge to go for a military look but I realized I can hide it easily with toppik and my hair grown out.

I would just stick with finasteride and add in an anti androgen. Its too much of a risk using dutasteride hair-wise. Either you'll get stellar results and regrow a lot or you'll be bald in a few short years on it. Its some fucked up sh*t man.

Why is dutasteride a risk hairwise? If you use dutas with high dose AA it should be more efficacious than AA and finasteride, you wont bald anymore if Androgenic Allopecia is your problem so its not really a risk
Hmm good point! Still not touching it though

You're making assumptions. I have first hand had a frontal shed from adding dutasteride. And since stopping, my hair is growing back slowly.

The frontal hair loss thing has been around since the drug released, but it has never been observed in clinical trials. The increased testosterone concept is just ridiculous. DP cells in the frontal scalp are not "more sensitive to Testosterone" over DHT because that's not how DHT functions. Testosterone, along with many other male sex hormones, can cause hair loss, but its negligible compared to DHT. You should be more concerned about the long term effects of androgen deprivation than if dustasteride is going to make your hair loss worse. I've been on dutasteride for a few years its the closest thing to a "functional cure' that we have if you are satisfied with the current state of your hair.

DHT is the primary androgen driving AA. That being said, AA develops from a cascade of pathways and once that process has started it may be too late. However, at the end of the day there's finasteride, dutasteride, or Min. If you are afraid to take the only medications effective at treating hairloss out of fear it will make you lose your hair then.... well just listen to how that sounds....
