Making Zix Absorb Faster?

Hi there,

Since stopping Finasteride a few months ago (bad sides which have still not gone away) I've been using Lee's minoxidil. It's worked quite well (I've got diffuse thinning at the front and it certainly hasn't got any worse) but I'm thinking of adding in some kind of topical DHT inhibitor as well. I was thinking of getting Lee's spironolactone but after hearing that it smells a bit funny and knowing that its not that cheap I thought I would give Zix a go for a few months first to see how it works.

I tried making this before as shown here:

http://www.advinfoprod.com/hair_loss_treatment_3.htm

There were two problems. Firstly the stuff wouldn't absorb well into my scalp at all, it just kept running down my face. Secondly it went mouldy very quickly.

In the Super Zix recipe it recommends "Ethyl Alcohol 70% available in any pharmacy" to help with absorption and to stop mould. This does not seem to be available in pharmacies here in the UK. The closest thing is Methylated Spirits, but because it is denatured I don't think it is safe to be absorbed into the skin.

What I want to know is what I could use as an alternative, I was thinking I could try rubbing alcohol:

This absorbs fast and I don't think it would damage the scalp. I don't know if it would suit though, it seems to be a different type of alcohol.

So if any of you could advise on the matter I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,
Robert

Instead of trying to create your own product, why dont you use the most clinically backed topical "DHT inhibitor" on the market called Revivogen? It amazes me that so many people have written this stuff off, yet not a single "cutting edge" home made treatment out there has 1/10th the backing that Revivogen does in published studies.

You are right that Topical spironolactone Lotion 5% is your best option. It does not stink because Lee has made a scentless version. It is a bit expensive. If you need help affording it, maybe I can pitch in something and help pay for it.

I have used both Revivogen and spironolactone myself in place of Propecia for over 3 years now and have maintained every bit of hair Propecia maintained for me. I wouldn't even *consider* zix for two seconds. Thats just me.

Thanks for the reply.

Because I am a difuse thinner I think that the spironolactone Lotion would be better suited than the cream and as far as I was aware Lee's 2% Lotion can smell. I might try making 5% with Dermovan but I think that could be messier than I want. Plus, I already have the ingredients for Zix and I want to try it out for a few months.

Revivogen costs $33 a month from this site, coupled with my minoxidil use I just feel that is far too expensive for something that "might" work. That's why I want to try some cheaper homemade versions first. It they work, fine, if a year from now my hair is falling out rapidly and I have become desperate maybe then I will try something like Revivogen:)

Keep the advice coming, thanks.

If we were looking at a scale called the "Might" scale and it was from 1 to 100 .............. 100 being a really really REALLY strong might .... and the only way to get close to 100 is friggen piles of clinical data ..... ... zix would be at about 23 ... and revivogen would be at about 85.

that being said, if this is all about money, i would spend the $33 a month and shoot for the 85, not save $15 and settle for the 23.

:D

Thanks, but like I said, I'm going to try out the cheaper option first of all. Current minoxidil use only costs me $8 a month. Don't worry, I'll make you very rich buying years supply of Revivogen from you if it doesn't work:)

If anyone has any tips on how I can get my zix to absorb more rapidly as discussed I'd appreciate it. How about this Dermovan stuff Bryan uses for his homemade spironolactone?

Thanks

You could just apply it on a damp scalp. Or after using T-Sal S-acid with the hair still wet.

This works with minoxidil. Advised against on the leaflet though.

Thanks, I might try that.

But what can I put in the mixture to stop it from growing mouldy?

Anyone know whether rubbing alcohol would work?

I bought some rubbing alcohol. I tried adding it to some distilled water in a 1:4 ratio. The water went quite cloudy and it didn't seem to help much with absorbtion so I'm not sure what to try next.

Any suggestions?

Mixing isopropyl alcohol straight with water ? it should not go cloudy. :)

Well I went ahead and tried it anyway. Just have to wait a day or two for mix to settle and then I'll try it. I can always throw it out if it hurts scalp.

Have you tried refrigerating it?
