i've posted here before, specifically about my hairline which i'm a lot less worried about now, unfortunately these anxieties come and go and i'm worrying about my crown now, though not terribly badly. i don't really know if there has been any progression, i'll attach two pics of my hair that i took a while ago, and the rest are more recent/ from today. the early pics of my hair were taken back in june.

these are the older images of my hair/crown, sorry for how bad they are:

here are the newer ones:
IMG_0094.JPG IMG_0164.JPG IMG_0170.JPG IMG_9848.JPGIMG_0051.JPG
the last one was me facing sort of eye-level, showing the back of my head more.

i'm not sure if the disparity in these pics is really a good sign at all or not, i would also like to note that these were taken in bathrooms under/near fluorescent lights which exposes my hair's part in these images.
sorry for taking up space on this forum, hopefully my anxieties are totally nonsense, and since my last thread my hairline hasn't really moved, there has been no additional shedding, my scalp has been a little itchy but i think that's because i'm walking everywhere and sweat is drying on my scalp.

i'm also worried about the way the back of my head feels, the hair there, i don't think it's actually less dense than the rest of my head but when i feel it, it sometimes seems light, but something like that would be more visible i assume, and no matter how i pull my hair up, part it in weird ways looking for less density on the back of my head/scalp there doesn't seem to be any.
thank you for reading

Seems like thinning. It could be slowly creeping over the next 20 years or go light speed in 5.

what should i look into if it is thinning? i'm still not really sure and i feel like it could be bad lighting/ how my hair is done, the third pic i have uploaded looks especially bad but i know that the worst parts follow my hair's part

also, i'm gonna post pics with my finger up near my crown for reference of those to my crown, if that would help anyone suss anything out. in this you can see, in the 2nd picture at the top of my crown where my hair is going forward it looks like it's thinning but i always thought that was just because my hair fell forwards and over my part sort of.

if i am thinning should i look into finasteride or should i just start off with like minoxidil shampoos or something minor?

To me it looks thinning towards the roots and less density in a focalized spot. You should probably see a derma. It seems like you have some thinning or loss of density on the top of your head too. You could probably do minoxidil, has its sides, is somewhat messy and takes various amount of time depending on hair length. Plus dedication. I've never tried Finasteride so I don't know what to tell you. I wasn't yet convinced that the risks, even small, are worthy for me so best you could do is first figure out if you do have hair loss or not. If you don't see a bunch of hairs everywhere then probably no panic. See a derma and do your homework to know what to choose.

@moumy I think our hair looks similar. I have gotten mixed answers on whether mine is thinning. If I ever figure it out I will let you know. Best way to do that is to see a hairloss dr. Not just a derm. I saw a derm that said I had male pattern baldness but just by looking at temples. Didn't look at my crown at all. 20190918_212541.jpg 20190916_221912.jpg

interesting, when i showed my temples/hairline here it was relatively agreed on by others that it didn't look bad, and it certainly hasn't gotten worse, looking at your crown it is cowlicked like mine, if you were to part your hair down the middle, if your hair does part that way, do you notice if your crown looks any better? when i do that my crown looks significantly less weird and like there is no thinning there really, which makes me think my crown is fine and it's just how my cowlick sits and the way my hair is weighted right now making it look strange. i think in the images we have both taken the disparity between our hair color and scalp makes it look worse than it is as well, with how cameras focus and light seemingly removes hair that we actually have on our scalps. have you looked at it with a hand-mirror or under different lighting? i've noticed with a hand-mirror my hair also looks less bad back there because i can see more there typically.

I haven't actually looked in the mirror at it! My mom was the person who first noticed my hairloss and pointed it out. She wasn't trying to be mean, just wanted me to know so I could get treatment if I wanted to before it got bad. I haven't started treatment bc they all sound awful. Rogaine is for life and may cause a bad shed and wrinkles, propecia may cause sexual side effects, brain fog, etc. ugh. I just wish my hair was super thick and I wouldn't be wondering if people notice a bare looking spot in back...

i feel like in less harsh lighting your crown wouldn't really be that noticeable, there are times in harsh lighting where mine doesn't even look very bad. i remember reading some stuff about hair oils being good for hair loss, but i know some of those have estrogen in them in some capacity, i have also heard green tea is good at blocking dht but most natural preventative measures seem largely unproven.
i would also suggest taking pics in different conditions, like after you dry it after showering, stuff like that, sometimes hair just gets greasy and looks way worse than it normally does, or presents a part of your hair in a less than flattering way because of oils in that area. if you touch your hair a lot that might be the case, i know i do that a lot because i want to be able to feel if i am losing hair but that never really comes back conclusive, i feel like all the hair up on my head is where it should be and stuff.
i understand about wishing your hair just looked perfect though, although i doubt mine ever did, i hope you find some kind of solution that helps you out and is safe for you, your hair doesn't look bad at all though even if it is thinning, which i'm not sure if it is.

It just looks like where your hair is parted to me.
