male pattern baldness but not lost hair in years - will treatments work?

My male pattern baldness started when I was about 16/17 years old and progressed slowly until I was about 24 in fits and starts. It hasn't got much worse if at all over the last 6 or 7 years (aged 31 now). So obviously I'm not that interested in maintainance because its not getting worse. I was just wondering what are the chances of treatments growing some hair back at this stage.. I'm using Xandrox 5% (am) and Generic Minoxidil with spironolactone (pm), Nizoral every few days. Going to start taking MSM. I only started all this about 1 week ago...

if you want to have the greatest chance of regrowing i believe you should use finasteride, it can help minoxidil work better. plus i know you say you're not interested in maintenance but if you have male pattern baldness, then somewhere down the line things may get worse, so i would try and maintain while it will be easy to maintain and if you want try and regrow some as well. if you don't want the finasteride in your system it seems like you have a good approach because spironolactone may be able to help maintenance by blocking dht topically, while minoxidil is proven to help regrow hair.

How bad is your loss now? Is it noticeable to others?

Yep very noticable. Looks like Norwood 3V / 4 but don't have a bald spot at such, its thin all over the top of my head from back to front. Lots of fluffy vellous hairs within the thin bits and where hairline has receeded which I hope might become better hairs.

Anyway hopefully notice some results in a few months :)

Yeah I might try finasteride but worried about side effects. Will try with spironolactone for a few months. Actually I'm only using spironolactone on the front/hairline because I want to be able to tell if it makes any difference over minoxidil/xandrox alone.

My suggestion and I know that there are folks that will disagree with me on this on...ease off of too many treatments. Keep it simple. It's my theory that overdoing it when it comes to treatments only can complicate and render perhaps an effective treatment, ineffective.

Your hairloss is probably like mine. I can't really tell what norwood I am since I'm thin all over but no real baldspot....at least not anymore!!

I posted loads of pictures and posts explaining my process and success on the tell your story section. However, I removed most of it since no one bloody replied to any of my posts!....anyway.

Keep it up. Mine was very white and fluffy to begin with, but it gets more colour after a while. I'm now using just for men hair colouring to colour my hair until the hair gets more colour....looks great. 2 weeks ago someone I haven't seen for a year or so asked me if I'm using drugs...since it looks like (his quote) i "almost have a full head of hair" again.
