My hair is similar to yours.

I started 0.25mg finasteride over a month ago, abandon the 0.5mg. I was worried as well for sides and had the pills sitting there for a week before I took it, but so far nothing. Hair has gotten thicker for sure and definitely good results. I strongly recommend it. It seems to work well for diffuse thinning.

Start with a low dose, it works just as well. You will not feel any different after popping that first pill, anything you do feel is all in your head. If side effects develop, it takes at least a week or two for them to creep, but you'll be fine.

Rogaine is not a good solution, you will lose everything you gained on it and quite rapidly as soon as you stop. If you stop Rogaine and take finasteride, you will experience that shed, and it has nothing to do with whether the finasteride is working or not.

Inflammation and redness without dandruff etc could be a sign of an inflammatory condition like lichen planus. Go to a dermatologist. Hair loss from lichen planus and related conditions is usually permanent.
