Hey, my hair has been thinning slowly but surely for about 4 years now. I've always been under the impression that it's male pattern baldness, but i've never really known for sure.

I started taking Proscar (finasteride) at the start of the year (about jan of feb), and my hair has not responded to it at all still to this point, and has actually gotten significantly WORSE (i.e. more thin), while being on finasteride.

This has gotten me completely confused and made me question whether i have male pattern baldness or not, so i thought i'd swing it by the pro's at GourmetStyleWellness and see what you all think!

Check the pics...

Definitely male pattern baldness.

Please don't make the mistake of ruining your life with finasteride.

Wow that was quick joe!

Care to elaborate on your perspective of finasteride?
And what are the 'other options' that you perceive?

Yeah, Joe claims that finasteride caused him brain damage. So...hmm...

Nobody can say for sure what's causing your hair loss. Once you go to the doctor and exclude other causes, then you can pretty much guarantee it's male pattern baldness.

Sorry man, it's male pattern baldness, you clearly are thinning on top, and the sides remained thick.

I've read a billion things on finasteride over the years. Some people say they've used it for years with absolutely no problems, some people claim that it's the devil.

So obviously it comes down to personal experience, thus why i asked.

To be honest most people have a good experience with finasteride from what i can tell.

Thanks for the replies. I guess it must be male pattern baldness, which is what i assumed in the first place. Oh well.

How many people in your family (father, grand father etc.) have male pattern baldness ?

Do you smoke a lot (especially weed) ? How is your hygiene (food, sports etc.) ?

Some cases of CTE look like male pattern baldness but there aren't male pattern baldness.

finasteride is actually weak at regrowing (minus some exceptions) , you will looking more to maintain your hair with finasteride, so while you have some left i would recommend seeing your Doctor starting the battle sooner,

if i had the choice i would have started finasteride 3 years earlier than i did.

As much as you want this to be something else, it is male pattern baldness.

I went through the same stage of denial 4 months ago. Now that I've spent a lot of time researching male pattern baldness I can spot it from a mile. I still don't believe that I actually didn't believe it in my case. From looking at my own pics it is so obvious to me now.

Your best bet is to hop on finasteride and minoxidil if you want.

Good luck
