Massaging minoxidil into your scalp?

I was wondering who out there massages minoxidil into their scalp after they apply with a dropper. I'm not sure if this is a good idea or not. Here are my pros and cons:

Pros:
- more even distribution
- better absorption maybe?

Cons:
- more minoxidil gets on hair, not on scalp
- less minoxidil gets on scalp because of minoxidil on your fingers

What is the final word on what yields a better chance of absorption?

Thanks.

I massage the stuff in, only because it seems to dry quicker.

I have got the same dilema man!

I massage it into my skin but true is that lot of minoxidil is on my hair and fingers.

After massage I remove minoxidil from my fingers into above ears area .I wash my hand then, get it dry and go through my wet hair with fingers again. Then Iremove minoxidil from fingers to balding places in the back.

But I am still considering not to touch my head after applying minoxidil by dropper.

I'm a drip and let sit guy.

I want as much minoxidil ON my scalp and not in the hair or on my fingers. At first it was kind of dripping everywhere, and took time to dry in... but now I have learned that if you apply it very deliberately and patiently, in small strategic droplets, I can get great application with little drippage and very little in the hair. It takes a bit of time, though, for me about 2 minutes.

Most of the time i massage it in, but some days i just let it sit there. I prefer to use minoxidil on a hydrated scalp, it absorbs much better.

Try this link I think I am going to purchase this applicator- it says 400% more absorbtion and no messy fingers. It also has a US patent. I believe this is your solution. My new regime will include using this thing at night with xandrox 5% and spironolactone 2% and spraying the 5% Xandrox in the morning for better appearance before work. Dr. Lee says it makes no difference how you get it on your head as long as you get it on your head.

Follow link to bottom of page.

I looks a bit crap to me.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Hair Regrowth Applicator (Liquid Applicator) was developed by Dr. James DeYarman, a well-known California hair transplant surgeon. It is specifically designed to increase the penetration of Minoxidil and other topical treatments by up to 400%, resulting in faster results and greater hair growth.
In order for hair growth medications to be effective, they must penetrate into the hair follicle. When you massage a lotion into the scalp with your fingers, 50% or more of the liquid is absorbed by your hands and the remainder may be poorly absorbed by the scalp. With Dr. DeYarman's Applicator, none of the medication is absorbed into the fingers. And rather than evaporating on the scalp or in your hair, 100% of the medication goes entirely into the tissue and is forced down into the follicle where it can stimulate hair growth.

The Hair Regrowth Applicator works with all liquid solutions for hair loss, including Minoxidil, Folligen, Tricomin, and Retin-A. It has been awarded U.S. Patent Number 4,787,374 and is available only from Spencer Forrest.

I don't think that working it around the scalp surface adds any effectiveness to it. I mean, once it hits the scalp, the minoxidil will get more evenly dispersed in the horney layer of the scalp skin according to Dr Lee?

I would rather not touch it, get in on my fingers and in my hair, and therefore have MORE of it ON the scalp. Let the horney layer do the spreading around, not your fingers.

Yeah your right, i think its called the epidermis or something. I dont think it matters whether you massage it in or not as long as you get it onto your scalp some way or another.

Plastic Comb

What do you guys think about using a normal, cheap, plastic comb?

I still retain a lot of hair so was concerned about more of the minoxidil getting on the hair vs the scalp if I tried to massage it in with my fingers.

This is my technique:

-Fill dropper to 1/2ML line twice
-Pressing firmly and slowly releasing
-1st application, facing mirror: move from front of hairline to mid crown in 6 straight lines (lengthwise) across top of head, left to right
-2nd application, back to mirror, holding hand mirror: move from top of crown to upper back of head to evenly cover crown area
-use comb to massage evenly across top of scalp

This 'seems' to keep all the solution on the scalp and off the hair with only the tips of the comb teeth retaining any

What do you think?

I got that applicator I spoke of earlier in the thread and the thing is the balls it works awesome. No sh*t on the fingers and all in the scalp you can rub quite hard to. For $3.95 it is on the top of Redbones list of sh*t to have. It works great for spironolactone as well and in all areas of the scalp, really gets the sh*t deep into the horny layers were Zimmy likes to hide.

you put minoxidil in the places that are thinning with the dropper, then put your middle finger through the thing and rub back and forth- I sh*t you not it works damn good and feels awesome. Really forces the medicine into your horny layer.

Redbone: that looks awesome. Have you heard about the derma roller? I believe it was mentioned somewhere on this site previously. I can't find the link, but it is an applicator of some sort. I'm brand new to minoxidil, and im paranoid im not getting enough on the areas that count. It's easy where I don't have hair, but where I do it's still thick enogh to be annoying. I try using the sprayer, but im not sure if im hitting the scalp, i use the dropper and rub it in, but im worried i havent gotten enough spread around evenly.

Relax Dr. Lee told me as long as your getting it on your head it will work. Perhaps deeper penetration does work better. I suggest for $3.95 + S&H you order that minoxidil applicator it works great and is patented. It is said to delever up to 400% more medicine to the scalp.

This thing was invented by a prominent hairloss doctor, In fact he even did our own Bruce Lee's transplants. I use it to apply spironolactone as well.
