Massive Shedding in recent times

Hello Hair Loss Talk!

I am noticing that every time I comb my hair I see maybe 20-30 strands of hair on the comb. Every time I apply minoxidil I do see maybe 10-15 strands. I'm guessing I'm losing maybe 50 or so strands per day, so not sure if this is good or bad. I recently started being more liberal when applying minoxidil and using this shampoo named "Folicure".

Anyways, I've heard that part of regrowing hair is losing a little bit first, but not sure if anyone has further experience with this.

Thanks!

That is perfectly natural and even expected when you first start a treatment. What's happening is the treatment is causing your dormant ("telogen") hair follicles to fall out to make room for new hair growth. However, it all depends on how long you have been using the treatment for. If you have only been using it for a few weeks, then shedding is fine. If you have used it for 4 - 6 months and you're still shedding, that's a different story. The shedding should subside after 4 - 6 months. But if it's been less than that, just hang in there and give the treatment time to work.

Folicure might help your hair in other ways, but I checked the ingredients and I don't see anything that has been demonstrated to actually target DHT, the main cause of male pattern baldness. So while it might be fine to use, don't depend on it as a treatment for the thinning hair.
