When i was 16 years old i stopped washing my hair frequently and only did once in a weak. After some months my head started itching became red and it caused me alot of pain.I can describe it as a burning.I've also started seeing my scalp on the left mid scalp.I've told my mom that it was red and that i had hair loss but she laughed at me because noone in our family has hair loss.I could also scratch some white/yellow crust with my nail and after a year i decided to go to the dermatologist cause the pain was really severe. He prescribed me ketokonazole and nizoral and the pain went away but my hair never grew back. After 5 years 21 now, the hairloss hasn't changed.I still have thinning hair in my mid left part of my scalp and some in the front. The crown area is really strong and so does my hair line.Could this infection damage my hair like that? and if yes what can i do?

I don't think i have male pattern baldness because my hairline and crown are really strong and if i started balding in 16 i wouldn't have any hair now.I'm the only one that can spot the problem because there are alot of hair to cover the thinning area.

seborraic dermititis they think is caused by maleezzia furfur, which is a fungus. the infection gets under skin, and the yellow scabs lift up. taking hair with it.

i originally by the doctor got put on a hydrocortizone creme for inflammation + nizoral 2% to kill the fungus, and that did get rid of it, but the reality is if i go 1 week without using an antifungal, it comes back, more crusty than ever.

i recently switched to coal tar shampoo, and that seems to work better, i.e it doesnt come bac after a week. + my eyebrows are regrowing, so i know its working better than nizoral (not sure about scalp regrowth though)

so my advice is this, learn about anti-fungals. chemical and natural.

1st 2 weeks, alternate coal tar shampoo (neutragena) and nizoral 2%
+ a creme from pharmacy over the counter called resolve with hydrocortizone, and miconazole (another anti fungal)

then alternate coal tar, nizoral, natural shampoo(add some tea tree oil if u wish) no SLS, or if it helps to think about it this way, anti fungal shampoo, natural shampoo, anti fungal shampoo, natural shampoo.

i know some ppl have doubts about whether SLS is harmful, but my opinion is that for ppl with seborraic dermititis, it is. its irritating.

until u get rid of the infection hair will not regrow, and even then, u might be stuck with it. but in my opinion trying to regrow it with minoxidil, would only make the SD worse.

coal tar and nizoral may make u shed a bit at first, but its probably nothing compared to the amount u will lose without them.

hope this helps.

i dont know. i only can offer my opinion.

technically if they dont regrow, they were either already miniturizing due to male pattern baldness, or there is something standing in the way. such as the infection.

that said mine have not regrown either, so i dont know.

rather than worry about if it has damaged ur follicles, u have to just do everything to keep the infection away, and hope for the best.

definatley alternate different anti-fungals though until u find the combo that works the best.

Hair loss

Side effects to inflammation may include temporary hair loss. If severe outbreaks are untreated for extended intervals, permanent hair loss may result because of damage to hair follicles.

It is still unclear if seborrheic dermatitis causes permanent hair loss, although the inflammation involves the hair follicles. Some researchers claim that the yeast causing seborrheic dermatitis is the main cause of hair loss because of this condition. For others, hair loss can be a result of the many other factors combined: excess oil production by the oil glands for reasons such as hormonal imbalance, stress, extreme hot or cold weather conditions, weakened immune system, Parkinson's disease, certain neurological conditions and keeping the scalp unclean.

I guess i've lost my hair due to this sh*t.If only i knew i would have treated earlier.
