Please post some updated pics

Hey mbehr22.

I have a vary similar type of hairloss to you. I am 28 however I am guessing I am where you would be in a couple of years with no meds.

Has the shedding improved. Keen to see pics at 4 month mark.

Just remember, most people do not see any regrowth from Finasteride until at least the 6 month mark. Alot of people have to wait until 8-10 months before seeing some regrowth.

i will post them ASAP.

using two mirrors, i really cant tell a difference. my shedding seems to have shifted from the crown (or maybe all over) to the front

i was concerned that my hairline is stuck in reverse (especillay lately) but now im on the fence - is it jagged due to hairloss, or is it jagged and thin (along the front hairline) due to new growth and some of the forehead is actually being reclaimed ...

hopefull, the pics will shed some light

good luck to you

i gotta say i see maintenance and that's about it. not much regrowth. that's fine though for 5.5 months

gotta amend my statement and say that i see no regrowth. kinda difficult to compare due to different locations and lighting but i see JUST maintenance. my "not much regrowth" comment was a bad choice of words.

Also, mbehr, are you aware that you're actually a diffuse thinner?

It's not just your crown that you should be worried about. WHen I look at some of the later pics with wet hair I see diffuse thinning in the front, right behind the hairline.

This is what I'm talking about:

100_2731.jpg

you've got some serious diffusion going on in areas of the front. Your diffuse pattern looks like NW5 because I see some diffusion going on at the tops of the sides of your head but not too far down like an NW6 or NW7 would have. This is just a guess of course but I'd say that your last stop on the baldness scale will be a diffuse NW5. That's assuming no medical intervention though which obviously is not the case with you.

1st - thanks for the reply

Now plz explain this to me ...

i realize i was getting thinner on top, but i dont think that happened until my initial shed.

also, i wasnt sure if the pills were working until i saw the pics .. just my opinion, byt i think the crown has seen some regrowth ... i could be wrong...

please elaborate on the NW5 thing ... what does it all mean?

Here's a picture of the Norwood scale:

hairscale.jpg

Just from looking at your pictures, I see you have widespread loss across the front. it is not super severe but i say it's moderate and noticeable. i see your final pattern as a Norwood 5 on the scale above but thats just my opinion.

i would add rogain foam, if you are looking for extra things to add.
But it could alsow be smart too see if it will work on only finasteride for 1 year.

I see somewhat significant regrowth. For that to occur after just 5.5 months, you should be looking forward to the next 6 months. Just keep doing what you're doing, I wouldn't add rogaine until you see for yourself that you need to. Once you start rogaine, you can't go off, as of now propecia is enough. I hope I respond like you. I've been on propecia for 2 months now and rogaine for 5 weeks and have had nothing but a serious shed. I started rogaine because I am much further in the male pattern baldness than you. My scalp is visible when dry.

BTW, did you ever experience a shed?

I don't know what JayMan and haunted-ballroom are smoking but I see a great improvement in your crown/vertex area !

If I were you, I'd keep taking the finasteride and not bother with minoxidil.

my shed lasted from wk 2 - 4 (estimate) ... it was bad, it was early on in the process, but it was short ... it slowly decresed until i now have a little bit of a 'shed' towards the front but the crown seems to have stablized

you said ur shedding from the back alot....do u mean back of ur head or the back where ur crown is?? and do u shed the baby thin hairs in the back of your head? im in a similar situation as u. axcept im diffusly thinning on the top but its still resonably thick as to noone would guess im losing hair. i wear my hair forward and longer EMO style.....my friends envy my hair and comment " man you have alot of hair...youll never go bald". my friend is diffusly thinning on top and its pretty obviouse to me and its getting bad fast. should i tell him about it and refer to him treatments? but hes so happy i dont think i can have the heart to tell him

when i 1st began finasteride i shed a lot from the top of my head and the crwon ... its all over really.

for the most part it was 'normal' hairs mixed in with the thin, very whispy types ...

now i think the shed - albeit much much less - is more towards the front middle - think and inch or two into my hairline from the front. now these 'shedded' hairs are much shorter and much blacker - for some reason.

anyway, i hope that clears it up

good luck

just an update

been on dutasteride for almost 3 months now

still thin overall in the top

i am really looking for some kind of thickening now ... i dont know what to do if dutasteride isnt the answer

i have seen a few little new hairs along my 'widows peak' but other than that, i cant tell a difference

i dont think ive recovered from the initial shed yet ... i had one big shed early on with finasteride and then i have been shedding moderately since i began dutasteride ... nothing sudden, just a constant flaking off of hairs

any suggestions?

there is not much you can do if dutasteride, finasteride and minoxidil dont work for you

The patch is shrinking mate. Do the full 12 months on finasteride for now. As long as you don't go backwards before then I see no reason why you should add rogaine at that stage. If after 12 months your loosing headway or only maintaining go for the MIN.

Good luck

Are you serious??? It looks amazing and you aren't even using minoxidil? Also as mentioned you are still not there all the way yet, you will have more sheds but each time it will just come back thicker, if you want add in the minoxidil for the temples and the crown. But as mentioned once you start that you don't stop.

but that goes for finasteride too, once you stop you loose what you gained from it!
