Mexican Propecia and Generics

Hi, all,

I've been using Propecia 1mg in combination with Kirkland Minoxidil since 2007 with fantastic results. I look at pictures of myself then and now and the difference is significant. Before, it was pretty clear that I was thinning, and people would always comment on it, but now I have "normal" hair and no one ever says anything about it. Very satisfied. For what it's worth, I've been using Nioxin System 1 Shampoo and Conditioner since 2000 but recently decided to try out Bosley System 1, only because the shop was out of Nioxin. I like the way the Bosley products make my hair feel.

Here's my question: Does anyone have experience with the branded Propecia or the generic version (LuxFil) that one can buy in Mexico? The branded "Propeshia" comes out of Puerto Rico and is the same price and color as the US version, but instead of saying "Propecia" it has a "71" imprinted on the pill. I live in California so it's easy for me to swing down to Mexico and pick up a supply. The reason I'm asking is because I've been doing a lot of overseas travel where I'm out of the country for several months at a time, and sometimes the 90 ct box isn't enough to last me the entire trip. Usually I purchase my branded Propecia from Drugstore.com, but since they won't ship more than a single 90ct container at a time, I've been thinking about augmenting my Propecia supply south of the border.

Any experiences/advice you guys can share?

Thanks.

Okay, so I'm responding to my own question from a few years ago, in case anyone else was interested.

After years of keeping around the "Propeshia" that I bought in Mexico without a prescription, I finally decided to give it a try. Here's an empirical reason why I think it might be the real deal:

I've noticed that if I go 2 days without taking Propecia, by the 3rd day, my hair noticeably starts to fall out (as compared to normal shedding while on Propecia). After that, it continues to fall out at this accelerated rate. It takes going back to Propecia for another day or two before the shedding slows down again. All this is observed primarily in the shower.

So after steady use of regular US-purchased Propecia, I switched to Mexican Propeshia and continued taking it for just over a week. During this time, I noticed no significant change in the amount of hair that I was shedding, nor did I notice any other weird side effects. Sure this isn't 100% scientific, but in an emergency, I think I'd be okay with using the Propeshia I bought in Mexico--especially with the rising costs of purchasing legitimate Propecia in the US these days. Haven't been back to Mexico in a while, but the last time I purchased, I think the price was around US$90-$100 for a 90-day supply.
