MHR vs Individual Doctor

I'm 31 and considering a hair transplant and have gotten quotes from MHR and Armani. I was initiallhy sold on Armani, but am leaning towards MHR. MHR suggested only 1650 grafts vs. Armani's 4000. Plus there's an MHR locally for me, rather than flying 3 hours to Toronto. And Armani's cost was 13.5 vs. 6.5.

I know Armani sells himself as a one and done, but is that really true? MHR thinks there is no way that is possible. I would prefer to be one and done, but am skeptical after visiting MHR.

It would be nice to save 7k and stay locally, but I don't want to make a mistake.

The MHR surgeon was a Dr. Shannon (5000 procedures under his belt).

Also, I'm a 9 year user of finasteride, and i'm switching to dutasteride. Should I start now, or wait until after the hair transplant? And, should I start at .5mg per day, or go every other day?

If he works 300 days a year and does 1 hair transplant on every single day of every year, he qualifies to be working for 16 years. Ask him if he has been doing these hair transplants for 16 years.

Few things:

1) Stay the hell away from MHR! Period! I will let you draw ur own conclusions. If I have to tell you why then you havent been researching very long.

2) The quote with Armani is ballpark for frontal hair loss in Norwood 2-4 types. We would need to see pics to help you or share information.

3) If Armani or anyone for that matter gives you a recommendation it is not set in stone. That's the max he may do for this case but you can work with him in that ballpark of grafts so to speak. In other words, 3000 quoted at 80-90 g/cm2 then you can say well can we do alittle less perhaps 2000 and maybe 70 g/cm2. Again need pics to see your pattern.
Money or the size of ur wallet may be a factor.

4) THe MHR people low ball you so that you come back for more procedures. Again need pics but if you are a NW3-4, even some NW2 types....1600 is not alot and may look thin and see thru, prompting more procedures down the road.

5) Never, ever let location dictate who and where you should get ur hair transplant! This is a serious decision and if it is in the hands of the wrong surgeon you will not only get the less than desirable outcome but could be scarred or butchered for life, use up finite donor resources that you may need down the road and possibly need a repair job which means more $$ out of ur pocket. This is why we research very carefully and share info.

6) Keep researching! See patients in person! See more Docs!

There is no way that Shannon did 5,000. That whole outfit hasn't even conned twice that number into the chair yet,at least I hope not. As far as MHR vs. independent,that is after extensive research. An indepenent Doctor has to risk his reputation. A franchise operator (MHR dr) hide behind an umbrella. Thats why they do what they do (meatball,at best, surgery)and are able to lie cheat steal as well as cause physical harm and disfigurment to their patients aka victims. Have you ever noticed that MHR has the same 6 fools (superstars) showing of those photos for the last 5 years. Haven't they they produced anything since? Also I wonder what they look like now?

When choosing a transplant Doctor over 2 years ago.

I checked MHR ............. 1st

ended up choosing someone else ....

Not too many grafts for HUGE $$$$$$$

you all say that there are so many better alternatives to MHR and Bosley - who are they? Don't just say "do your research." That's what we're trying to do. Name some docs, please. In the michigan area?

I do understand where you're coming from though. So many options and it starts to get a little overwhelming. :roll:

Try to understand that everyone has a different opinion on who is the best. IMO, there are approximately 40 some very good hair transplant surgeons world-wide.

You also need to read multiple forums and soon you'll see who is getting the most recommendations based on results. But keep in mind also that the forums that have the big buck sponsors are not always making the best recommendations in the interest of the patient. That's also why I always laugh to myself whenever anyone states that so and so is the best or only consider so and so. :roll:

There is no single surgeon or physician who is the best answer or only answer or resolve to "every" patient.

No offense, but if you are not aware of the fact that there are endless better options outside of your state, you still need to do more research even though that's not what you want to hear. Basic research will inform you to never base your decision on convenience in location. :shock:

It's only when you and only you have done enough research to know the right questions for hairy and no one else. You're special my friend so don't discount your own interest. The more research you have done yourself will give you the confidence in making prudent decisions for hairy's situation. Best wishes to you!
